Hello! Day 1 of CG.. help identify curl type?
Hello,
I have been doing lots of reading on this wonderful site and have done CO washing in the past but have decided to go back to it again with some dedication!
This is day one... could you tell which hair type I am?
Also - I am using suave naturals coconut, aubrey organics island naturals conditioner, aloe vera gel and HE totally twisted gel.... does this seem ok to start off with?
Thanks so much

I'd type the curl pattern as 2a. What products you use will totally depend on your hair properties. Have you decided on those yet? You can find info on identifying those at www.livecurlylivefree.com - texture (fine, medium, coarse), density (thin, medium, dense), and porosity (low, normal, high) will play a much bigger role in your product choices.

Hair elasticity too can help guide product choice. I agree I think your hair looks like a 2a.

Love coconut oil, olive oil, and Everyday Shea!
HGs are simple, natural, and destroy frizzzz!!

You might actually want to hold off until you've been doing CG for a while and then assess what your curl pattern is. I lot of people find that it takes a few weeks of doing CG for their hair's true curl pattern to fully emerge. (Take a look at the Before and After CG Photos thread to see what I mean: Post your before & After CG pics).
And ITA with others who pointed out that knowing your hair properties is really important for figuring out how to care for your hair correctly (i.e. product ingredients to look for/avoid, routines, etc). But for me anyway, also knowing hair type (2B, 3C, 4A, etc.) helps when considering hairstyles. I'll see a hairstyle I like but then I consider whether my particular curl pattern will produce the same look, something similar, or 'not-even-close'. HTH.

Thanks for the good advice. I do expect mine will change - it has over the years already. I am 30 and I never really accepted I have wavy hair until recently because it was pin straight when I was younger!
The before/afters are awesome!! I love looking through them.

Mine has definitely changed drastically since day 1. I dont even look like the same head of hair. But mine was very curly as a baby & I'd fried it straight so I expected it to bounce back like it has.
