Default fav styling methods for the curly bob?

So I have an angled bob cut, and I think my hair is a 2b.

How do you scrunch? When I flip my head, all I scrunch is the canopy. How do u recommend I do it so I get the under hair? Same issue w/ plopping...it works well on the canopy, but the under hair lays funny.

Give me your secrets! :-P

Default Hi

I don't plop-but I can tell you how I scrunch-i have a curly bob too. I like a lot of body. I tilt over and lift the back of my hair underneath and kind of gently lift the top and side pieces if you know what I mean. Then right-side up I scrunch and rake my fingers through.

It depends if you like body. Some people don't so they lightly scrunch but I don't like the crunch or that feeling of the hair being so flat to my head.

Hope this helps. I think the best advice is-don't be afraid of it-as long as its dry.

Other than thickness(going only by your photo here), I'd say we have pretty similar hair.

Rather than plop with a towel, I've been using jaw clips to do a similar thing for quite a few years. I think it works better for us wavies to help increase the amount of curl as the hair dries. My hair gets much much straighter if I let it dry naturally and don't clip it up though so it'lldepend on your curls I suppose. Anyway, after I shower and apply my choice of products(conditioner and gel) i blot/scrunch a bit with a tshirt then scrunch with hand only instead of releasing the hair, I put in a big jaw clip. when my hair is shorter like your pic, I use a few in different areas of my head so that the side hairs aren't being pulled to the top before going into the 'secured scrunch' which would make the roots straighter and only the ends curly. When it's long, I only use more for the sake of what would fit into the clip. I leave them in while i'm getting dressed and doing other morning stuff and even while diffusing for a while. I did learn quick though if I leave them in too long (like when my hair is getting close to dry) it might form weird kinks. I've been doing it for probably 5+ years and it's definitely helped increase the curl and avoid flat roots.

(i also sometimes, fix a straight piece by twisting or making a 'pin curl' type deal and just clipping it in with the rest.)

Oh! I love that secured scrunch idea! I will try that. Today I clipped the roots and used a diffuser for the first time. That really helped...

I like lots of body...so I will try that scru ch method as well

I hope it works for you! Maybe it's not something others do, I dunno, but it has worked for me...ooh, maybe it'll start a revolution! Have you secured your scrunch today?

...nah, my curls aren't exactly what anyone's gonna consider revolutionary, oh well, if it at least helps one person, I'd be happy!

Bumping this up for more ideas.

How do any of you curly/wavy bob gals handle upside down scrunching? What is your favorite method for clumps? Favorite method for volume? Favorite products?

I started out as a winter wavy/summer 3a. Since I started lurking on nc.com, I've learned to use the right product/techniques to maximize my curl potential. My hair looks like my signature picture all year around.

I put my products in soaking wet hair and wrap it in a Curlease towel while I dress and do make up. I scrunch with a CLU towel to get more water out and tighten curl a little more. Then, I diffuse for about 5 minutes to "set" the curl. Let it air dry the rest of the way (it takes a few hours.)

Other important thing is to rotate products. My hair has always satiated on product. Even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out and style every day. Seldom use any one product more then once in five days, if that.

I scrunch by leaning from side to side. My curls definitely do well with scrunch n pump. I also have fine hair, so for me, no leave in condish. Im using a wave enhancer with a peg cone (gf wonder waves). And aia cj. Must clip roots and pixie diffuse for volume and curl enhancement. Finish it off with suave spray gel. Make sure you let it dry completely beforesotc.

Oh, the towel! I use a t shirt towel. Figure out which kind works better for you. Flour sack, t shirt, microfiber. And i never scrunch with my bare hands, but a damp part of the towel. And plopping usually doesnt work for short haired wavies. I can wrap my hair up if im careful, like kind of shake it in so it doesnt pull the hair.

I am having trouble visualizing the 'secured scrunch'. Could somebody explain? How does it differ from the clipping from the CG book?

Thanks

I've tried this too with great results! Didn't know what to call it though. So make that three people who do the "secure scrunch"
