Default I'm clip challenged...

I can't get the claw clips to stay in my hair when it's wet.. is it because I have fine hair or am I just challenged?

If you are "clip-challenged" don't worry, you aren't alone. Some things I have seen others try:

1.Using the longer metal clips. These stay in better for some, I use them, so I only have to clip from the front, and I can leave the clip end out a bit and don't get them tangled in my bangs when I try to take them out.

2.Using the large plastic (octopus?) claw clips or roller clips instead of the small metal clips.

I just ordered a blow dryer with diffuser, so I can try diffusing upside down and see if I can get lift that way and skip the clipping step altogether.

Experimenting with too many products to name here. All this great info keeps my head spinning.

I am also clip challenged, I've tried the little metal ones and they worked okay (better than anything else I'd tried up to that point). Lately jaw clips are working a little better.
Here is what I learned: to not overthink the clipping, just shove them in where I need lift. When I was worried about technique, my results were lackluster at best. Also, I've been growing out a super short cut, I've not had my hair cut for 7 months and it has only been the last 2 or 3 months where clipping helped at all (before that, they'd just fall over). The jaw clips only started working for me in the last two weeks. Because my hair is so fine, I think I needed the length to help bulk it up enough to work.
Try the "just shove it in" method (gently of course), it may work

You're definitely not alone! I couldn't use clips without pulling out strands of hair every time, so I just gave up on them and determined to live with whatever root lift I could get with my diffuser. And then I saw this trick by Marcie Pie, where she uses a straightening pick on a blow dryer to lift and dry the roots.

Cheaper alternative to the Devafuser

Since I tossed out all my straightening picks, I use an old Afro pick from my 80s-permed-mullet days (don't know why I still have that item) to lift my hair at the roots on top of my head and around the sides, and point my diffuser at the lifted area on low/medium. Then I Pixie diffuse the rest of my hair.

I actually went to Sally's and got a new straightening pick for my dryer, but I like the Afro pick/diffuser method better...less direct air stream blowing on my curls.
