Possible thinner hair from cg method????

Hey guys. I've been feeling some kind of way about my hair lately so I'm gonna put this out there and see if I'm just losing my mind.

So I've been cg since the end of December 2011 and all has been well. For the last month or so, I've noticed that my hair feels thinner. There are no bald spots or anything like that but if I were to feel my ponytail it just seems to be thinner. I'm wondering if my hair is softer or smoother, so maybe it seems thin to me but I'm not sure.

There seems to be a bit more hair on my comb lately but I'm still not sure if that's due to me not detangling every day or not. Is there a way to figure that out without washing it every day?

Just fyi, my routine is usually co-wash and rinse out, use a second condish, detangle with my comb, rinse out all of it then put a little back in. Let it dry in a plop and put it up in a braid or bun unless I style it with product, which isn't all that often yet.
About once a month I'll use a baking soda/condish scrub followed by an acv rinse.

Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong or if my hair is just feeling softer/healthier without all the rough, dry bulk of hair I am so used to.

Thanks for any feedback.
CurlieCaper,
I've been wondering the same thing. My curls on the crown are looser then the ones around the sides and in the back. The ones on the crown seem to be thinner then just last year. I've been a mod. curly for almost 2 years. That said, I low poo with SMMR once every week or 2 and I do cowash & detangle everyday because I can't get decent 2nd day hair. I'm beginning to see more hair in the comb when I do cowash but I don't know if that is from the crown or everywhere else. I'm super gentle when I detangle. I just got a deva cut last week so it seems a little thicker but I know the curls are just shrinking from the cut.

I would love someone to chime in and let me know if they too have experenced this and what they did about it.

Oh I experienced just about the same thing. I was only a month into it, but my strands were easily over-moisturized and broke off much easier (think of how much easier hair breaks when it is wet). My scalp was also itchier because it tends to overproduce sebum and co-washing just won't remove all of it. I think yeast had a chance to set up home there. I had to use dandruff shampoo afterwards--but a plus is that the new Head & Shoulders smells like heaven compared to the old one!

The only thing I do CG is treating my hair delicately and giving it a quick scrunch after my shower, sometimes with gel. I do comb in the shower with a wide-tooth comb with condish before shampooing. It just gives me the best results.

Just remember that what may be a miracle for some curlies/wavies can be a disaster for others!
Dense but fine and delicate 3a hair. Feels like a dandelion without product. Difficulties in getting less puff and more definition when short.

On a mission to grow out after my big chop!
Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about doing the same as far as being cg. I'm not sure how much thinner I'm willing to let my hair get before I stop lol.

I think I'll maybe use a shampoo to wash now and just keep going with the cg stylers and no towel route. I just hope my hair doesn't get dried out and rough like before! Regardless, I'll take the dry hair over thinning hair or bald spots lol.
No two heads of hair are alike. I've seen CG give some people amazing hair, but I've also seen people with amazing hair who are not CG at all.

What I have learned through trial and error is that it is possible to find shampoos that will leave your hair feeling clean without leaving it feeling dry and stripped. If your hair likes protein I can't say enough good things about CHS Treatment Shampoo. I've also heard some great things about Redken Fresh Curls.

Ultimately I found technique to be far more important than product. I had inadvertently become CG almost 3 years ago, but I didn't know anything about the different techniques (was still towel drying, etc). My hair still looked lousy, even with good products. Conversely, I've re-introduced some sulfates and silicones back into my routine and my hair still looks good.

Thanks for the posts you guys. I have been playing with products recently so maybe I need to go back to my old products and see what happens.
