Default PT Where did I go wrong?

Today was the second time that I tried IAGirl's PT. The first time, I just did quickly in the kitchen to see if it had potential. It did, so today I tried to get serious.

I think I didn't rinse well enough?

My curls look great, even the straight-ish underlayer that I have (thank you weird hair) was a bit less straight.

However, my roots seem flat and stuck to my head and sort of greasy feeling. I did add about 1 1/2 T of coconut oil to my PT and then did my RO and LI.

Too much conditioner?

I don't think that I went overboard on the KCCC, but I suppose that's possible too.

Should I leave it be for today or hop back in, rinse and restyle?

It's not too terrible looking I suppose and I am going to work out later tonight. :/

Hello! I am fairly new to all of this myself, so certainly don't take this as gospel, but I had this happen to me recently after a PT (no idea how the coconut oil might factor into it since I've never tried that) and it turned out I was overproteined. Folks here helped me figure it out, and for me it seemed like I was greasy at the roots because my products were just sitting on top of my hair! A few days later I saw my stylist and she confirmed it and told me to hold off on any low pooing and just conditioner wash - moisture, moisture, moisture - until back to normal, just like everyone here told me! A few days of that and my hair is feeling right again. Did you do a deep conditioning treatment afterward?

No dt; just did my normal conditioning. My hair doesn't feel stiff or crunchy at all, just flat and gross at the top.

Yup, mine was flat and gross at the top, too. The only difference was I had trouble with all of my hair, not just the top. I quickly discovered why a DT is recommended after a PT! If the problem isn't corrected by a thorough rinse, I would consider trying DT using a protein-free product.

Thanks for the help!! I think I'm going to go rinse it now to troubleshoot. I may be working out with wet hair later, but I guess I'll figure that out when it happens!

are you doing the CG method? How long have you been on it? I see you joined in June. I started the 25th of june and about 2-3 weeks in my scalp was just awful and is starting to recover now. You could just be transitioning to the no sulfate/cones.

  • 2c with a strait underneath
  • normal elasticity on top, none on the underneath
  • Fine side of Normal
  • Thick hair
  • Poriosity is a mystery. I think its all over the place.

Yes, I started right at the beginning of June. I haven't really had any weirdness with my scalp. Maybe it's delayed?? I think it was maybe too much coconut oil in the pt and I didn't rinse well enough. I'm drying now so I'll have to see what happens.

sarstang, I think what you are saying is what I would guess. One time I accidentally got too much oil into my mixture, but used it anyway, and spent that day with hair that was greasy on top b/c the oil just clung to the top of my hair where I had poured the PT. Now I use less oil, and actually dip the ends of my hair into my PT mixture before pouring it over my hair. And then rinse, rinse, and rinse some more!

I ended up low pooing this morning after my morning workout. My head looks better for sure.

I'll have to try your technique next time I brave the pt! I had such great curls yesterday except for the whole flat top thing. :/
