Sick of people fishing for compliments?

Like Tree21Likes

I don't mean to be rude, but how many people are sick of peolple who have posted pics on here saying their hair is terrible and it looks like they have just come out of a salon with perfect, perky waves/curls/coils? Are they serious or is my hair just a pile of crap? I think my hair looks great until I see someone whose frizz-free, defined curls says that their hair isn't fit to be seen by civilization. I have had many compliments about my hair since going CG and my hair is nowhere near perfect. Am I the only one who feels this way? A bad hair day for me is not total awesomeness lol. Is the goal total godliness? I am OK with having mortal hair that is prone to mistakes.

lol. i wish i had a picture of my hair yesterday to show you. something went way wrong yesterday morning. thinking too much gel. but it was stringy and limp and frizzy. then it got rained on getting all my bags in the car for school. With GA's humidity, i've given up on frizz free. lol. I complain to my BF all the time. He just laughs and tell me its not going to get better until we move.

started CG on 6/25/12.
  • 2c with a strait underneath
  • normal elasticity on top, none on the underneath
  • Fine side of Normal
  • Thick hair
  • Poriosity is a mystery. I think its all over the place.
Probably everyone just has different expectations for their hair on different days.
So what seems perfectly great for one person seem less than idea for someone else!
I think it's great that we're all here to support each other, no matter what a person's looking for!

You are beautiful!
While I don't necessarily think they are fishing for compliments, I know what you mean. I remember one pic someone posted with awesome, defined, shiny curls with a minimum (to me) amount of halo frizz moaning about how bad their hair looked that day. I posted that her pic was hair I can only dream about having. As Gretchen noted, we all have different experience and expectations for our hair.

Experimenting with too many products to name here. All this great info keeps my head spinning.
Also it's harder to see frizz in photos than it is in person, so their hair may really look worse than your think, and if you put up a pic of your hair, people would probably oo and ah over it.

I definitely get what you mean, but sometimes when people take pictures, it doesn't accurately represent their hair. For instance, I remember when my hair was as dry as a bone and completely frizzy, but when I saw the pictures of my hair at that time, it didn't look so bad.

Now, my hair FEELS great, but sometimes it doesn't take the best pictures

I agree with a lot of these responses - I think also sometimes we THINK out hair is horrible, but it's really not that bad, sometimes even great! The good news is that may be what's happening to you, as well!

I think everyone has their own perception of what a "good hair" day is for them and what a bad hair day is, so that while they may think their hair doesn't look good, you may think it looks fine.

The thing to remember is, if those threads/posts annoy you, don't read them, and don't post a response. No one is making you respond, no one is making you read the post. Sorry to sound harsh, but it's a simple truth. There are alot of threads on here that I can tell by the subject line are about something that would annoy me; I just don't open the thread.

I may have come off too harsh...maybe "fishing for compliments" was a poor turn of phrase. Also, I've been having a bad hair week and feeling frustrated! The banana hair mask was disappointing...It's true that pics don't always accurately reflect reality.

2. I thought my hair looked awful today too (tried a bit of coconut oil,) but some girls walking down the street told me they loved my hair. Maybe they were just too far away to see it properly, though, hahaha Even if YOU don't think your hair looks good, others might.

Good luck with your hair(:
If you want a different treatment...I might try a beer rinse. I know it sounds crazy, but I recently got a beer shampoo and conditioner, and my hair is super soft. Also, if you want some extra softness, put on some coconut oil and leave it on because the coconut oil will trap in the protein from the beer rinse. (Your siggy says you like protein, right?) Then you can lowpoo the coconut oil after a little bit or even leave it on all night if you want(: HTH

Just weighing in real quick........

1. If I feel my hair is having a bad day, I ain't 'bout to take a pic of it......PERIOD! Those who do MAY be hoping for a compliment......OR they just wanna see what others think, maybe get a product recommendation.... you can sometimes see which is which.

2. I do a hair smoothie that includes banana and my hair finds it awesome. The key is to smash up with a fork or masher, then throw into the blender/food processor with the other ingredients, one of which should be a splash of liquid(coconut milk, avj, h2o.....whatever you like {in my "Coming to America" voice}).

Hey.. Sometimes people just need that pick me up. This is a sh^tty world and sometimes you just need someone to say your friggin hair looks good. Or you're not FAT, or you're pretty, or whatever you're not sure about about. There's nothing wrong with wanting someone to say you're "good". If you ain't gonna give up that compliment, click out.

Plus I agree with all the picture doesn't do it justice responses. Might look good in the pic, but different up close.

I thought it was odd the recipe didn't include a liquid...My bf bought me some coconut milk, but it has guar gum in it and I don't think you're supposed to put that in your hair. If it makes your hair look awesome, I'll give it another try once I get the guts.

My hair situation was that I used the gelatin PT and just used the banana mask as a conditioner afterwards. I think it was the first time my hair had ever felt over-proteined (is that a word?). Crunchy, straw-like. I had no curl definition and the frizz was crazy, just a poof ball. I'm not sure if that one incident really messed up my hair (it still, looks bad, but improving. I did another protein treatment followed by Fekkai's shea butter mask). I'm worried my hair is permanently messed up although I know that's probably not true. Just so frustrating...thanks for all the help guys and sorry for the late response. My hair would be lost without the people on this site!

I agree that it might not be fishing for compliments. We all have different expectations for what we want our hair to look like. What look like "salon perfect curls" to you could be a frizzy mess to someone else. The grass is always greener... Plus, in a world where straight hair is the norm and all curly hair is considered "frizzy" I really wouldn't be surprised if a woman with luscious curls was feeling self conscious about them. I always tell women how stunning their curls and kinks are because it's so easy for curly girls to be put down. Fishing for compliments or not, we should all be proud of our curls no matter how frizzy or defined they are. I actually prefer my hair to be a frizzy mess...but that's just my random two cents.
Mostly 3c and lovin' my curls

This is not a fashion trend, it's not a statement, it's pride for who we are and what we look like. And that is where our true beauty shines.

I never (seriously, never) get compliments on my hair. I sit in a ticket window and see plenty of people on a daily basis too. I guess that's why I think my hair looks like crap all the time, because no one tells me that it looks good.
Hey, worth a shot! I'm sure it looks awesome!

I agree with u virginblue, completely. And another thing that drives me crazy is, the women that get on here complaining about how hard it is to control their 2a, 2b or 2c "curly" hair. It's barely wavy! I wanna say whoa, that's not curly, take my 3c-4a hair and try to manage that frizzy mess. Those girls have know idea how lucky they are. Just had to vent..Thx.

Well, maybe to them, it is curly. It's not up to another person to decide what is curly and what isn't. Would you like someone to tell you what your hair is, or isn't? I know I wouldn't. If you're frustrated with your hair, you're frustrated, period - whether you call it wavy, curly, nappy, kinky, or straight.

I don't think calling someone out on their curl pattern and deciding if they have a right to be frustrated is exactly fair, and sounds a little bit exclusionist to me.
