Default What have you recently discovered about your hair?

I'm constantly amazed that I am still learning about my hair after years on this site! What a wealth of information.

Recently I realized that leave-in makes my hair limp - so no more leave-in for me. Better, bouncier curls are the result.

Have you discovered anything recently that surprised you?

ETA: I scrunch in a tiny bit of rich, real conditioner after I rinse out. The leave-in is too slippery for my hair.

I'm starting to think that I need to up the protein a little bit. After I OD'd on protein products when I first started, I've been avoiding it for the most part. I'm going to try alternating my RO with Ion Effective Care to see if it makes any difference.

That I need a "less henna to cassia" ratio when coloring.

My hair doesn't necessarily need gel
It gets dried out VERY easily
May not hate protein as much as I thought it did (still experimenting...)
Doesn't hate coconut oil in SUPER tiny amounts (used way too much last time!)
Likes honey
Hates mag sulfate
Hates sprays

I'm just trying to keep my hair happy and hydrated(: Right now, I'm rethinking everything! haha

I see in your signature it says you have a coarse canopy but medium to fine underlayers?

We might be hair twins!

Although my porosity and elasticity are normal (Thank God!), my texture has coarse characteristics that needs to be nurtured with moisture and I should keep away from proteins.

I have recently discovered that my hair needs to be washed well in order to absorb products properly. I have been afraid of my hair drying our, even using No poo that I mostly used to just clean my scalp and let the shampoo run down my hair. Unlike most shampoos, I can actually rake and smooth the No poo through my hair, which cleans it really well and then I do they same with my conditioner and my hair turns out much nicer than before. I do feel kind of dumb that I did not know this before.

1. One side likes to grow a tad longer that the other
2. My natural hair likes natural stuff in it (with the exception of Miss Jessie's Buttercreme)
3. It responds well to the LOC method

I need to shampoo more. At least twice a week. Like someone said my hair absorbs better when clean. My curls are tight but they are fine and especially prone to buildup. It kills me how misguided some people are as to the meaning of fine and course. Hair can be type 1 and course and it can be type 4 and fine.

My hair loves sulfate free shampoo!! It loves being clean, but sulfates make my hair ok, but rough.

My hair feels SO great now. Much healthier.

I need to comb my wet hair with a wide tooth comb after showering or my curls won't form.

The less product the better, all I need is a light curl cream and boom.

It needs to be fully dry or it doesn't look good.

1. In order to achieve full, voluminous(?) root curling curls, I must comb my hair upside down in the shower. Works every time!

2. My curls love Kinky Curly Knot Today!

3. On a more discouraging note, my hair is thinning because of either the Hair, Skin & Nails vitamins I was taking, or because of the CG method. I'm extremely worried.

Although it's not a recent discovery, I've learned that not touching my hair whilst it's drying helps to keep my frizz to a minimum (which may be overstating the obvious, but before I joined here, my fingers were drawn like magnets to my damp hair, lol!) And I like what scrunching out the crunch does to my curls, once the slight gel cast is 'crunched' out, my curls spring to life, I love that!

I've learned that I don't need a gel to keep my hair under control. That I can "style" with conditioner only and my hair look just as good as with other products. I'm able to get away with just curl keeper or just mousse and don't have to style with a curl enhancer, gel, serum...etc...to have a good hair day My second day hair is also better without all the extra products. My hair seems to like simplicity .

ETA: my hair also gets oc'd so it doesn't like to be washed everyday .

I really need to hold off on detangling until after the RO, and wait until my hair is covered in LI. Much less hair loss this way.

My hair hates gels.

My hair is clumping more than I thought, the clumps are just all in the back.

The more plopping the better. I've been having good results with washing at night and plopping overnight.

I love upside down self cuts!

Curl type has a lot to do with curl diameter. I down graded myself to a 2c because my curls are 1.5 inches across, not 1 inch across like 3a's.

---
2c, F/M, ii, med porosity, good elasticity, APL, silvery dark brown.
Love coconut oil, olive oil, and Everyday Shea!

Well, I definitely need to change some things from last time...hahaha
I found recently that my hair REALLY hates protein
Upon more experimentation, honey doesn't do too much for me
My hair doesn't mind mag sulfate like I thought it did
It also doesn't hate sprays (still seeing, though)

Additionally, I used to think my hair hated cowashing because it just left me greasy, but as long as I clarify a few times a week, cowashing is what brings the moisture! I hope I'm getting things right this time, hahaha
