Default help for a summer routine, with swimming involved

I love how you all chime in and help. so thanks in advance. I would love to take my kids swimming almost daily this summer so they can learn to swim. But my hair ALWAYS gets wets. Now if I low-poo daily afterwards, here's the problem. In the evenings, I go walking/exercising and sweat and would like to wait to clean my hair until after. Does anyone know of a happy-medium that would allow the chlorine to get out of my hair but not cause me to be washing my hair twice a day, and drying my poor scalp out?? Thanks, for all ideas.

I do when I swim for exercise, but when I'm just in the pool with my kids hanging out, that doesn't look so cool. I always put my hair up so that it doesn't get wet, but it ends up getting soaked.

you could always try just rinsing it out with regular water and maybe putting a little leave in in it, to combat the drying of the chlorine.

yeah, or co wash. really depends on your hair. that way you aren't stripping your hair with the chlorine and then shampooing 2ce. thats a lot of drying power for just one day.

For me, if its chlorine I have to wash it that night. If its salt water, i'm not overly concerned. The chlorine just tends to turn my hair green.

have you tried rinsing your hair first and applying condish or oil? that might be for you then the pool water cant really penetrate your hair then after the gym wash or co wash your hair.

I usually do not wear caps...yea not very cool looking haha! I usually just put some LI (a lot!) And put in a high tight bun. After I get out, and if I'm not washing yet I just do a very quick rinse and put more LI to keep moisturized. Then when I shower I just do my cowash and RO. The tight bun seems to work in not letting the chlorine damage bc the LI stays in the hair pretty good! And bc I put a lot of it ....... since I swim so often in the summer I do the low poo evry few days if I swam, and I haven't had a problem with chlorine damage

great answers, thanks so much. About the leave in, I'm assuming you would wet it first like the person above said, no?? thanks, I will try this and that will alleviate my worries from having to poo it twice.

i do it on damp hair....if my hair dry I spray it with some water to dampen it then put the LI...its easier to apply everywhere!

yep soak your hair first. hair is like a sponge, so theres only so much you can have in it, so when you put the oil/conditioner in it it kinda seals the water in and the pool water out.

Coat your hair with condish or oil before getting in the pool. You don't have to wet your hair first. The theory that wet hair blocks chlorine is unproven. The condish/oil forms a physical barrier to prevent the pool water from getting to your hair. (see this page for more details: science-y hair blog: Your Hair on Chlorine)

Afterwards, rinse your hair thoroughly. (If you just want to rinse, use a CG friendly condish. Oil may need a little poo to remove.) For extra protection, get a dechlorinator from the pet store (meant for aquariums), dilute it in some water, and use that as a rinse. It'll neutralize the chlorine without any damaging byproducts.
