Pineapple method?
Hi! So tonight I was trying out the pineapple method for the first time and as I looked around I the forum I got kind if confused on what to do, do you take your hair tightly to the top of your head and tie it in a ponytail or bun? Or should it be loose? Also, has anyone experienced breakage on the sides of their head due to the constant moving?? Just wondering thanks!

Keep your hair as loose as possible. Just tight enough to stay up but not so tight that you are pulling the curl out or leaving a "bump" from the scrunchie. I sleep with a pineapple nightly. I also use a satin pillowcase. The pineapple keeps my curls intact and the satin pillowcase reduces any friction from my flip-flopping all night. I've not had any problem with breakage.

Yeah, keep it loose. After I put mine up I put on a satin sleep cap for extra protection. You sure look funny afterwards....

This is exactly what I do, too. I was just pineappling by itself, but I sleep so restlessly that I was really messing up my hair. The sleep cap over the pineapple takes care of that, I don't mess my curls up at all now.
But yeah, you sure do look weird. Think Marge on the Simpsons

That's funny! Hubby has called me Marge, Bride of Frankenstein or Dork. Regardless, it works and he likes the results.

I pull it up as loosely as possible in a scrunchie. When my hair is shorter, I do a partial pineapple - pulling the top layers up, but not the lower layers. You don't want to pull too hard or it will pull the curls out.
I sleep on a silk pillowcase. It make a huge difference for me hair and skin. I tried satin but didn't like it. It made me sweat. Satin is a natural fiber. It doesn't make me sweaty and doesn't slide off the bed.

In order to do the pineapple method, just flip your head upside down so that all your hair flips, then gather it all together and tie it into a ponytail, using a fabric hairband. I normally tie it twice around and leave it pretty tight (just loosen a bit) because when it's loose it tends to fall off in my sleep and my hair gets messy. And also I usually do it while my hair is at least still a bit wet.
