Senior Portraits & Super Curly Hair

I have VERY, VERY, VERY curly hair. It's reeeeeal big. I think it is 3B, but I'm not sure. Anyways, I'm a senior. Which means senior portraits are about to be taken. I have absolutely no idea what to do with my hair. I would love for it to be all perfectly wild in pictures, emphasis on the word 'perfectly'. I'm pretty sure that won't happen though. Every time a big event rolls around, my hair decides to go psycho on me. I've only straightened my hair like ten times in my life. It's not me at all. But I have to admit, the idea of having my hair look good is tempting. I was thinking of wearing my hair curly (& praying to the good Lord that it cooperates!) for senior portraits, and then straighten it for cap & gown pictures (since I'm a tad bit worried my hair won't fit under the cap.)

Sound like a good idea? Any suggestions? Anyone else ever been stressed out about similar events? :)

For my senior portrait (aka, ask a friend with a nice camera to take my picture.... screw professional ones) I left my hair curly, but pinned some of it back. Very casual. I wish I had played up the "crazy curly" to be a bit more to be fun and be more "me" but eh, it's just highschool.

Can you post a picture of your hair?

I wore mine curly, but mine's not really big or anything. I love love love that you want to keep it natural -- DEFINITELY go for it. In terms of keeping it tame, well... Are you CG? If not, or if you are but are desperate for it to look good, I'd say cheat. Load it up with products, silicons, whatever WORKS. It's one day, after all! You might have a couple of bad hair days immediately after, but I'm sure you won't do any permanent damage! I'd also do a deep condition or oil treatment 1-2 days before, because my hair always looks nice and shiny and non-frizzy immediately after one obviously.

I think most curlies probably worry about big events, especially ones that involve pictures! I know my hair never seems to fall into the same pattern twice, so I never have any idea what it's going to look like on the day.

I straightened mine for my senior portrait and have regretted it every day for the past 35 years. not really, but I do look at it and think it really didn't capture the true me.

What she said. Wear it curly! I like the suggestion of doing whatever you want with it that one day, whatever works. It's a special occasion, one day of 'cones or a curling iron on unruly pieces won't kill your hair.

I tried the CG method for a little while. It didn't really work for me. I usually fix my hair with leave-in conditioner, mousse, and a little hairspray. :)

I can fix my hair the exact same way every day and every time it will look completely different. The tumblr page called 'Curly hair problems' pretty much sums up my hair. haha! :)

Thanks everyone for the answers! I'm definitely going to wear my hair curly!
