Coconut oil....help!!!!!!!!!
So I've used coconut oil 3 times now and have had horrible experiences every time.
Today I applied coconut oil to dry hair and put up in a shower cap for about 3 hours. I then got in the shower and used a clarifying conditioner (vo5 mint tea) and conditioned as usual. Rinsed my hair and combed through then applied conditioner to soaking wet hair to style. ( like always ) this time when applying my conditioner instead of my fingers sliding through it was rough and coarse. The texture of my hair was similar if you would put aloe in dry hair. Gummy and stiff. It's terrible. If I take my hand to glide down my hair it doesn't glide. Whats going on?! This happens every time. I usually end up baking soda avc rinsing my hair.
I'm sitting here now about 15 minutes after my shower and my hair is sooooo stiff.

I didn't like cocoanut oil, and my hair loves protein so I'm not sure why my hair doesn't like it. I tried more than once but no go.
Try a lighter oil - a lot of curlies like almond oil or jojoba - or try the one in my siggie. It lasts forever and it is very light.

My hair loves coconut oil, but there's no way I could get it out with just a cowash. I know many curlies have no trouble that way, but I need to use a low-poo. Maybe try that next time and see if it makes a difference?
I'm a good speller! My iPhone keyboard? Not so much.

I LOVE Renpure organics, both the Argan oil one and the Keratin one for low-poos. (If your hair is protein sensitive the argan oil one is protein free, I believe.)
I can use small amounts of EVCO on dry hair, but if I want a treatment I'll put it on heavily and then low poo it out.
Sometimes I'll mix a little with my LI which goes into very wet hair.
My hair loves protein and loves coconut oil, but I think if I put it heavily into dry hair and only co-washed it out I'd have a mess on my hands. Small amounts co-wash out without a problem, but large amounts would likely be a problem.
Remember that EVCO penetrates the shaft, which can make it harder to get out.
Also, do you shower in warm/hot water? Bc that might make a difference, too. I'm assuming you do, but I know some people take cool showers, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

^ Great suggestions. The only low poo I use these days is Curl Junkie's - not cheap, but it lasts forever. I've also tried Jessicurl's and Kinky Curly's shampoos (which some people love, but stripped my hair something awful). I've also used Shea Moisture's shampoo, but not to get out coconut oil so I don't know how it works for that.
If you try coconut oil again and still don't like how your hair feels after using a low poo to get it out, I guess you'll know for sure that it's just not for you. This whole curly hair thing is one big science experiment!
