Kinky Curly Custard questions
@RingletGirl - Like you, I'm lazy, plus cheap LOL! What leave in do you use? As I might have mentioned, I've been leery of leave-ins, as they tend to make my hair go limp. Even if I don't rinse every bit of conditioner out of my hair, it will tend to go limp. Sure, my hair might be soft, but the curls droop as a result(2c-3a here). As far as my gel, currently I have the LA Looks Sports Gel, that I moved up to after the old Curl Look was discontinued. I did have a foray with the Nutra-Curl gel, but it was nowhere near as good as the old Curl Look one. I checked out the price of the BRHG, and that's EXPENSIVE for me, at $31 for a 34-oz. bottle LOL! Hopefully I'll be able to make do with the LA Looks gel over the KCC(I haven't bought it just yet).

I use the Kinky Curly Knot Today LI with the KCCC but some people use a regular rinse out as there LI. On the BRHG I think I paid $14 for an 8 oz but it lasts forever since I only use 2 pea size amounts per day, 1 for each size of my head. You could probably use any hard hold gels. I have super fine thin hair and this mix doesn't weigh it down. Also I purchased my KCCC at Target. I got the smaller jar so less of an initial expense.

Kinky Curly Custard questions
@RingletGirl - seems like we have different hair LOL! I have fine-ish to medium texture, but a LOT of hair, so that's why I have to pretty much go cheap with products. This, along with my micro-budget for beauty in general(save for my haircuts - I WON'T scrimp on those!) I'm talking tablespoons full of both rinse-out conditioner and gel. A pea-sized blob of anything would take care of just one little strand of my hair LOL! But thanks for all the input! I did see that the use of the Knot Today was highly recommended prior to using the KCC.

I too have relatively fine, very dense APL hair. I generally need to use quite a bit of conditioner and product to get good coverage. I have both KCCC and a blue (hold of 5) Eco Styler.
I agree with PP who said that KCCC is a great curl enhancer and Eco Styler is a great clumper. The fun thing about Eco Styler is that it is so inexpensive that it can be fun to play with and experiment with without any worry about using a lot of the product. I find if I water it down, or use it in a supersoaker method, the stickiness (which is much less with the blue lower hold version) is not such a problem.
As Kathymack said the more expensive products do seem to go a long way with just a little, but I am always a bit more gun-shy with using the amount I probably need due to the expense. I find KCCC takes a bit of playing with to get the hang of it. Most recently I have been using a teeny amount emulsified with Shea Moisture Smoothie to refresh 2nd day hair. It is a product that mixes well with a lot of other things and I would highly recommend it.
Enjoy your experiments!

You might want to check your Target. It might be cheaper there than at WF.
I have a love/hate relationship with KCCC. This summer it has worked really well for my hair but the past few, not so much. I don't use a leave in and scrunch it in to dripping wet hair. I usually top with a harder hold gel like AIF or BRHG.

My hair is also fine texture but a lot of it, and I really like KCCC. It gives me a lot of curl enhancement, but I definitely have to add a hard hold gel on top to get any sort of staying power. When I diffuse and add the hard hold gel on top, I can get nice second day hair. Your curl pattern is a bit stronger than mine so you might not need a hard hold gel, but it never hurts to try.

I think the small jar - 8 oz., I think - was about $13 at Target. IIRC, I paid about $30 for the large jar I bought a few years ago at WF
