I think the Clairol mousse is a buck fifty. Worth a try!
Where did you find this? I've been looking but haven't found it at any drugstore/target near me.

I have found Suave Captivating Curls at Kmart and Target.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar rinses weekly
  • shampoos occasionally that do not contain sulfates
  • conditioners without silicones or proteins (or so I think- Keratin seems to do ok)
  • Flour sack towel
And I dont even know what else right now...thinking I may need to drop gels altogether...

Currently have Shea Moisture and DevaCurl products that I may just need to give up on and cut as a loss...

/for some reason, I have not had good luck with HETT. I had better luck with the Tousle me Softly pre-cg, when I did not know what I was doing. The Deva foam is like the Aveda Phomllient, but has more hold and more curl defining properties. The Aveda product seems to be for fine haired gals. I did not like the Suave mousse either...

I use Beyond the Zone Tame Your Curls Mousse from Sally's. It's inexpensive. I have extremely thick hair, and I never thought mousse would work for me, but it does. I take the puff of mousse and rub it together in my hands until it looks like oil, and then I put it in my hair. If I don't make it into that oil-like consistency, it doesn't work. This mousse has been my HG for many months! It also makes my hair shiny and soft (I hate crunchy hair lol).

I like some crunch, and I need it for hold.

Seamelody, I found the Clairol mousse at Walgreens.

Today, I am going back to something that worked well before I became CG and started styling my hair differently. I applied HE Tousle me Softly FIRST, and then applied Biotera gel OVER it, instead of the CG thing of applying gel first. Will report later.

Another vote for Condition 3-in-1 mousse! I've been using it for a few years but always love to try different ones as well. I recently tried the HETT mousse and it was hit or miss for me although it leaves your hair smelling amazing! The HETT works great for my daughter who straightens her hair.

I also revisited Paul Mitchell sculpting foam and The GVP version for the last two days and used a quarter size of AOMM first and I was surprised I got a ton of increased curl with lots of body and it made my hair feel thicker which holds my curls better through the day. I used the Paul Mitchell for several years during my big frizzy hair days alone and then tried it again and it didn't do much alone for me, but when mixed with the AOMM it seems to add a lot of moisture and I'm surprised it held through the day because it doesn't have very strong hold ing ingredients. Can't decide though if I like the original or the GVP better, how about you?

Does GVP have cones or protein?

My can which is probably old shows only water soluble cones and a wheat germ ingredient, white ginger and algae. Not sure if the last 3 have a little protein or not?

Default Looking for the perfect mousse - what's yours?

I just tried the Captivating Curls Mousse - ugh! I must be in the minority - see my post today under reviews. I'm heaving this stuff into the trash, I swear!
On the subject of mousses in general, I haven't had all that much luck with them myself, with my very heavy, thick 2c-3a hair. I'll stick with LA Looks Sports gel myself which I've been using for a long time. I'm also not into applying more than one styling product to make my hair look good either.

I didnt like the CC mousse either. I think it was the protein, and also it has a cone. I hear you about not liking to use more than one product to get your hair to look right. I wish I could find my "one".

@Myrna - the problem I had with the mousses in general is that they simply don't have enough hold for the amount of hair I have, even though I don't have long hair(my hair is in an inverted bob). The CC actually made my hair feel slimy going on, plus it made it LIMP!!! The gel helped, but like I say, I'm NOT into fussing with 2 stylers. ONE is enough, with the LASG. Lesson learned - I have to just stick with what works and NOT change things up just because I hear rave reviews about this or that. I've learned to do this for skin care too. Lots of products out there that people rave about, but I CAN'T use, due to having either reactive skin, or often, no particular benefit from using this or that. Can you believe this - one person on another board told me, even after I had mentioned that the CC mousse had too strong of a smell and that I was sensitive to fragrances in general, that I should try to cover up the fragrance with another one? Yikes!!

I almost always use mousse with a gel. Alone - as you say - not enough hold. Everyone here tries to help, I think, but we all have our limits. I refuse to make my hair care a science, having it analyzed, am I sensitive to polyquats, etc. Its tooooo much!! And lately, I am not even sure that sulfates are the big bad ingredient we have been told - I think it depends on our hair.
