is this a curly thing or just me?

Since I've gone curl, I realize that if I let my hair airdry and curl, etc. my ponytail measures thicker than if I braid it while damp, I get a smaller ponytail. My daughter who has straight hair, has the same thickness no matter if what situation, two days without a wash, brush or no brush, whatever. I don't know what causes that change in me. But also, I can have this great curl, volume good, and I sleep on it, and I look like I've lost half my volume. Is that a curly thing or is that just me with very little hair. curious to know if anyone else finds this.

It's a curly thing. Mine does the same thing unless I use a hard hold spray gel on the under side of my hair and sleep with it spread over my pillow then I get awesome volume
