well I went with curly today! And I'm having a good hair day! I never really have much if any frizz so it looks very well kept. Could have more volume but as long as its neat it professional to me! I was already told I look nice so I'm assuming it included my hair lol.........! Love the curly look and didn't want to burn my hair today!

I agree with your comment. A lot of this is generated because of poor grooming. Straight-haired gals get away only because it's considered the 'norm.' But certainly there's a lot of poor grooming among straight hair women.
But to me, a small company with a liberal dress code should not be a problem. It only becomes a problem with big corporations who have a strict public identity.

Crazy thing....went to the job meeting last night with curly hair, wasn't really worried anymore! Well the big boss walks in ofcourse dressed in her business casual as well, and well she had gorgeous curly hair!!! Let out a huge sigh of relief hehe! So if the big boss, the doctor who started the whole company comes in with curly hair for a very important business casual meeting..........curly hair is very much soooooooo "PROFESSIONAL"!!!

i thought about this post a bit before i commented. i think that when people think of curly hair, that they straight away think of two things:
1) that curly hair is done with an iron for a wedding or formal etc.
2) that curly hair is extremly fizzy and goes everywhere, basicaly that its not neat.
just when one is nice and neat, and well groomed is as much as any one can do or ask for.
just my 2 cents.

In my line of work, it doesnt matter how my hair is. However: I dont believe I have EVER seen an anchorwoman with curlie hair; in films, I dont believe I have every seen a woman executive who has curls of any kind. If she is dressed "professionally", she has straight hair, or it is worn pulled back, or up, you never see curls. OP, you are not wrong. There HAVE been several posts about this. A few years ago, a man in a bar referred to my hair as "party hair", which I think was a compliment at the moment, but you can see where he was headed with it.

Obviously they are stuck in a pre-21st century mentality...
P.s. I went to a job interview with a full head of curls. I mean, curls galore! I thought nothing of it because I knew I looked great. Hopefully I get a call back, lol.

Wow reading this 20 minutes before a job interview. Yikes.
As a few other have said..... I think it might be more related to if it's kept or not. I'm sure they dislike straight haired girls going in there looking a mess. Curlies just get a bad wrap because some have unruly hair.
I personally think its absurd to discriminate against curly hair. On the other hand if your hair is a wild mess regardless of straight or curly I could see where an employer would dislike that. Kind of like coming into work all wrinkled.

Agree - long curly hair doesn't have to be unruly. I worked with a woman who had long thick hair very much like mine. She washed and dried it and finished it with a curling iron so it was pretty perfect. I don't have that much skill or patience so mine isn't that refined.

Well ladies. I scored a two day working interview. (tomorrow and Wednesday) and I'm debating on whether to restrain my curls or let them down. Lol. I can't help but have this thread in the back of my head. I'm thinking on wearing my hair down but pulling my sides back with a cute flower pin since they have been annoying me. This is for a receptionist position at a dr office so we shall see.

I would skip cute flower pins, unless it is a pediatrician's office. I know you say it is a receptionist position, but you still need to look professional.

I really like goody clips (available at target or drugstores). I can't remember what the one I have is called but they have many nice options that are clean and professional looking for sides back or updos. I also love my flexi 8 clips but they are only available online and you don't have time for shipping!

Congratulations greencup13! Let us know how it goes
After reading the other posts, I agree that curls are by no means unproffessional, and that the issue is really whether a person's hair, clothing, and appearance in general is well groomed. I personally have always worn my hair curly for interviews, regular work days, important meetings, etc. and never experienced any negativity or discrimination because of it (and I work for a large, conservative corporation). But there are definite stereotypes, especially in the media, about curly hair vs. straight hair. In my opinion, the romantic, free nature of curly hair is a beautiful counterpoint to the more rigid/structured aspects of the workplace, and I love to see other professionals rocking their curls.
