Wheat Ingredients and Hair Loss?

I just had a ton of hair loss in the last month (I wrote another post about the knottiest hair ever) and it's not my thyroid or anything ... I went to the chiropractor and he said it's something to do with wheat ingredients in the products I'm using. Lo and behold, I came home to find out the Ouidad I had just switched to has wheat in it!,

Has anyone else experienced this?

No, but I know there are a lot of ladies who say their hair hates wheat protein, so it's not inconceivable that there could be some connection - I've wondered if those same women might also be gluten sensitive and if that might not be the cause . . . .

Well while my hair is MISERABLE right now and super thin! it's good information to know!

I'm gluten intolerant - it turned my hair to STRAW, tangled, dry and falling out! But at least now I stopped it in its tracks and can repair!

I wonder if there's a list somewhere of wheat and wheat-derivative free CG products. Or even a list of what ingredients to look out for. This is definitely all starting to make sense!

I wish some of those people would respond, b/c this answers a lot of questions for me - the tangles, the brittle straw-like hair, no slip, now half of it falling out...

I've been gluten-intolerant for years, but never thought about it in my products.

Spiral Solutions too? Geez.

Are silk amino acids or pantheol wheat or wheat derivatives?

So I think silk-amino acids and panthenol are okay but keratin, yeast, and wheat are not - and probably not oats either (not sure about soy).

I separated out all my products with wheat and so far it's MOST!

The ones with it toward the top of the ingredient list are definitely problematic. So glad I'm finally solving this!!

Now I have to find all new products after taking YEARS to find these (I think the wheat thing is tricky b/c at first the product will seem fine then overtime, I get super tangly hair, falls out through combing, dryness, etc.)

I had a sample of Shea Moisture masque last night and just smoothed it over my poor hair and my hair literally softenend and detangled. I left it on over night and today I cowashed with a little smoothing lotion and NO TANGLES!!! total slip and I did a SheaMoisture leave in with another sample I had and some BRHG over that (which has no wheat and is a go to for me) and my hair IS BACK! Yay! Much thinner but soft, bouncy, shiny!

So I think this is going to be another bit of trial and error and I do know I need protein but Komaza has no wheat, nor does this SheaMoisture - so I'm going to go pick some up at target today (shampoo and all) and see how that works.

I wonder if celiacs have pushed for gluten-free labeling on products other than food . . . .

Bought some Kinky curly tonight and tons of SheaMoisure, though the poo doesn't say sulfate free - but it's everything else free.

Can't believe my hair made a comback just on two Shea moisture products!

We can't even get food labeling through yet. :-/

Suave Naturals are gf-- at least most are. Coconut has silk protein, though. Tresemme Naturals, too.
Curly girl in VA, do you avoid wheat in your hair products? Is silk protein wheat? (oh no! I thought it wasn't!)

Yes, I have Coeliac disease and avoid all sources of gluten in products. No, silk protein is silk protein. Wheat protein is gluten. I just mention that in case you suspect/find that you are avoiding proteins in products.
