Naturally straight hair - to perm or not??

I found this board on naturally curly hair for help with my daughter's curls.

I, unfortunately, have stick straight blond hair and would love to have curls. I don't know if everyone on this board is naturally curly or if some of you had straight hair and permed it.

If so, I was wondering if you like it or if it was too damaging for your hair. Tried to find a message board for straight hair or "permed" hair but didn't locate one.

Thanks!

The overarching theme, at least from what I can tell, about NaturallyCurly.com is to embrace your natural texture and be proud of it, curly-haired or not. That said, you can do whatever you want because it's your hair! But I think you should love it how it is.

If you DO perm it I would use a lot of the curly techniques to help minimize your damage. Coconut oil, no towels. Don't blow dry. Etc. do you color? If so I'd not perm it. That's a double whammy.

I permed. I'm a "2" and I felt frustrated that I never knew how much wave or curl I'd get. But then I started feeling like I wanted to try to live with what I had, on wavy days and non-wavy days. Now I do, and it's much easier and more peaceful. Plus, no more perm smell!

The main thing is getting a cut that works with your type of hair. If I had stick straight hair, I would have a long blunt cut bob. Or a pixie.
