Confused about what to do daily

I've done a search on the forum but didn't come up with what I was looking for. My hair is extremely damaged from heat styling and over chemical processing for 12 years. The only products so far that I've been introduced to by a stylist are the DevaCurl and she was not very detailed in what I was supposed to do.

I only need to wash my hair every 4 or 5 days. Am I supposed to put conditioner on every day and rinse it out? I thought I saw something like that here but I am not quite sure.

I already use a leave-in conditioner. If I'm supposed to use conditioner every day and rinse it, it takes almost the whole day for my hair to dry. Even though my hair is damaged, I'll have to use a diffuser. Would it be better to invest in a hooded dryer -- are they safer, like when the stylist sat me under one at the salon, or are their's different?

I'm sorry if this seems so basic, but there are so many things to understand at first.
You're going to need to experiment and see what you need to do with your hair. First thing, you need to discover your hair properties. Here's a link to help Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics If your hair is really damaged, you probably will need to do frequent DTs and PTs to get it as good as it's going to be until the damage grows out. If it takes that long to dry, it may not be as porous as all the damage your reporting would indicate. You could get a hard bonnet dryer at Sally's for around $50--search for a thread about R2D2. I have a professional dryer--FHI Nano. It still takes a few hours to dry after scrunching out water with curl towels and a little diffusing, but not the six hours it took before I used products!

Around here, Deva is a love/hate line. Many of us started out with it, thought we liked it and then moved on to other things. They changed the ingredients a few years ago--so, I won't let them use even the NoPoo at the salon when I get my haircut. I find it too drying (my hair is in such good condition that the shampoo guy won't use conditioner.)

I do wet, use a rinse out and style every day. Seldom use lowpoo. Use natural soap bars to cleanse, when needed. Since I stay away from chemicals, my hair just has the residual ingredients from the richer products in it that needs to be removed on occasion.

Hope this answered a few of your questions.

What do you mean by "I do wet, use a rinse out..."?

I'm sorry if I don't understand that.

Also, you didn't mean it takes a few hours under your professional dryer, did you? How long does it take under that dryer? Since my hair is damaged, I know the salon didn't want to further damage it by heat, so I wonder what setting they used on their dryer. What setting should I use if I get a professional dryer? What about a dryer from Sally's?

Sorry to ask all these questions - just learning!

I've don't ever totally dry my hair. It's been almost 35 years. I only diffuse for 5-10 minutes on high. Never touch my hair or get too close with the dryer. I also use Curls Like Us and Curlease towels to help remove the water. After that, its probably dry in another 2 1/2-3 hours. (I don't have a lot of hair--chin length, inverted bob of low density hair.)
