I had my hair analyzed -

Anyway, now I have to eliminate 9,000 more products! Ugh. I'm just doing hydrolized first and will do panthenol later.

So I'm wondering if Silk proteins is the same as Hydrolized - b/c I just read in that other thread I posted that anything "hydrolized" is next on the list (next to wheat) for protein sensitive - some products have "hydrolized" and others just have silk or whatever.

Bye bye repair me!

The shea moisture line has "silk protein" but it's not hydrolized.

Since when did I become a chemist?

These are unusual reactions for a fine haired curly.

Pay attention to the source protein. Hydrolyzed describes size. If your hair hates silk, it will probably (but not always) hate it in all forms.

If you live in a dry or low dew point climate, you could just need moisture.

You might just have build up and need a good wash.

I just did a product search for protein free and Curl Enhancing smoothie comes up (Sheamoisture) - it's right in front of me, though and it says it has Silk protein in it?!?!

Also recoil def. has protein, I thought.

My hair looked SO GOOD the first two days I had people complimenting it everywhere I went. I never, ever get hair compliments. When I got the first one I actually turned around to see who was standing behind me because it didn't register that someone was saying, "I love your hair," to me!

It was fun for awhile, but if looking good for two days means burlap rope the rest of the week it's not worth it.

Is Hops protein? I don't have many gels and I used the DevaCare because I thought it was supposed to be moisturizing. It's fantastic for definition and getting rid of frizz...but I'm thinking it's going to be awhile before I brave using it again. *sigh*

Hops, like many plant extracts, can feel protein like on hair, though it's more common in coarser hair. I can't stand hops, except in AOHR, where they seem overpowered by the other stuff. Brittle city with the hops. There's a reason people used beer in hair. Hops help for those who need it.

redceltic, according to this, I'm thinking I have coarse hair?

So is hydrolized silk protein and silk protein the same?

Maybe.

Do you remember your porosity? Low porosity hair can be difficult to moisturize.

Huh!

I'm stumped.

But, if your analysis hairs were mainly from your temple area (if I recall the analysis instructions), you may have fine temples and coarse elsewhere?

You could try low or no protein to see how it works for you.

If you've used any silicones or polyquats, you may need to clarify.

the hair sample was from all over.

I haven't used cones.

I truly think it's the protein - I'm thinking hydrolized, but I don't know if just plain silk protein is a problem. We'll see - lots of experimenting to do - but I'm desperate - I've lost SO MUCH HAIR!

I had a big breakage problem my first year from protein. It sucked, but it did recover, and my hair is pretty awesome now if I do say so myself.

Try low protein. It can't hurt.

Double check the cones issue - I am pretty sure PM The Detangler has cones. My hair was incredibly tangly pre-cg, and I think it was from layering of cones.

Have you tried a clarifying wash then doing a DT?

Maybe you don' have to cut out ALL protein, just cut BACK?

Idk... I'm stumped, too!! Your hair sounds somewhat similar to mine (except I'm highly porous), but it certainly doesn't behave the same. :/

Good luck! Keep us posted!!

Okay, so here's what I did today out of "instinct" - looking for feedback.

I did a Prell wash - major clarifying.

I then put mayo, olive oil, and egg on my hair - it was about 2 cups full!

Here's the interesting thing, after about 2 hours on my hair (and with a little heat at the end), my hair ABSORBED ALL OF IT! there was practically nothing to wash out.

I detangled with KCKT ( and still didn't get as much slip as I'd like) So since I didn't get slip, nor did my hair feel particularly soft, I put gobs of biolage conditioning balm on my hair - just so it can feel moisturized! It ABSORBED THAT TOO!! Totally soaked it up!

So I was thinking, I want to add some oil since I RO'd the Bioloage, but no much was left to RO, so I sprayed on some Giovanni Vitapro Fusion and raked that through and then scrunched in KCCC (which is always pretty safe for me - at least I think).

We'll see what I get.

Any thoughts??

BTW, I just ordered a bunch of protein-free products so I'll experiment for a while with being as pt-free as possible, and if I add back in I can get a better read.

Right now I literally cannot stand to lose anymore hair!!

Wowsers!!! You SURE your hair doesn't like protein? Bc that's a lot of absorption, which makes me think you are porous!

I add honey, EVOO, and a little ACV to my RO. (i'll use that as my DT, too.) That has helped with my moisture issues. I also co-wash whenever possible, and if I low-poo or clarify, I usually coat my ends with condish first. (sometimes even on dry hair.)

Just a few more techniques to try!

Good luck!! Hope it works out for you!!

My hair was coated with oil for 12 hours before I clarified.

But oh my, I DON"T KNOW!

i totally thought my hair was porous - but the analysis says normal. But it soaks things in like you would not believe! So should I just ignore analysis and assume it is porous?

Also, I really do think I am having protein overload or a reaction b/c all the symptoms are my hair lately.

Unless it's oc'd - this has just been an ONGOING issue and I can't figure it out!!

Hair is feeling better right now; my gut still says protein has been the problem. I have it tied back, but it feels softer and more moist than it has in ages.

I think I need to try a good butter or oil for sealing

You have got me so curious!

When is the last time you used protein in your hair?

It does seem like your hair is incredibly porous. I started to think this when you said it was slurping up KCKT...and then GVP Balm...But then when you said it drank in mayo, eggs, etc. ...WOW. (It's hungry too!)

Even with a "Prell" wash, I cannot imagine non-porous hair being that absorbent. When is the last time you did a "floaty" test?

If your hair was coated with cones, I don't think it would be able to suck in all that stuff. I think your hair would feel sticky; not to mention phenomenally greasy.

Do you color your hair? (I can't remember what you said about this, sorry)

Did you have your hair analyzed very recently?

Could it possibly be your water stripping every last bit of moisture from your scalp? I moved to AZ from SoCAL last June, and the difference in the water is remarkable. Whenever I hear anyone in AZ complaining about the "hard" water, I know for sure they've never lived in LA. The water back there feels like rinsing with sand compared to the water here, and I don't have a water softener. At some point, could your hair have been absorbing too much water, and the heaviness led to trouble?
