I don't do anything special, really. I trim about 1/2" three or four times a year. I don't use shampoo - only CO wash, and as the others have said, I detangle very carefully - only when drenched with conditioner while in the shower with a wide toothed shower comb. I never comb or brush other than that.
Oh yes, and I eat pretty good - lots of protein. I am 56 so I didn't think I could grow it as fast as I have. Patience it foremost. It takes time to grow your hair.

So would anyone have any idea why my ends are really thin?
My hair has been shedding a lot lately (mostly b/c something is causing me a LOT of tangles, and when I comb it out in the shower, I lose alot) - so while the volume of my hair is thinner, the ends were REALLY thin - not split, but they don't look good so I'm cutting them all off.
It seems when my hair gets past BSL, I get these super thin unhealthy looking frizzy ends. Help?

Perhaps protein overdose? What are your hair properties & products you are using?

Lisa, I have another thread in the general forum called OMG the tangles - you can read about it there - I don't want to hijack this thread. But I think it's MAJOR protein overdose, but also protein sensitivity (which I never realized).
I'm trying to track down other ingredients that may have been causing this. Would love your input - though if you wouldn't mind check out my other thread Omg the tangles!
Thanks!

Thank you. I think my hair just had more shrinkage than usual in that Feb 2010 picture, but it seems that after I got to arm pit length I got more 'hang' so it seemed longer. I have about 6" of shrinkage so that right now my hair looks waist length, but it really is to my bum crack when I pull it straight.

I'll play. This is before I got the big chop (7.5 inches). Actually, nearly a year before. I was having an incredibly good hair day.
You guys and your amazing curls are making me miss the long locks.
(and as comparison, this is after the haircut)

Long curls still need a good trim every once in a while. About a year works for me. I'm lucky enough to live in So. Florida and get my hair cut by Tiffany (aka Struttswife) at Live Curly Live Free. It's difficult to cut when you're trying to grow out, but a good trim will do wonders. Lovin all these pics of beautiful curls.
