Thanks CurlyMJ, There is no secret, last time scissors touched my hair was dec2009. After I decided to grow it out, I never used any cones, no hot tools, no shampoo.
I co-wash once every 3-4 days, although I try to leave in some conditioner every single day coz my hair loves moisture. 3rd and/or 4th day I usually do buns and braids as protective styling.
Thats about it.

Wow beautiful curls, I agree with you on the maintenance of long curly hair- also I am losing my curl pattern from curly to wavy/sloppy which makes me think i should chop off some length.

Thank you! You have beautiful curls as well!! I bet they are so shiny with your dark hair.
My hair gets very wavy/droopy in some sections, especially during the winter. I find that it will spring back up in the summer. Usually a curl enhancing product (ag recoil), lots of scrunching, and a diffuser can bring back some life though. I do find that the longer my hair the less curly it is. Another reason to go back to short hair some day I suppose.

I'm planning to cut to a curly bob very soon, so I figured I should post my pic here now while I still have long hair.

My curls hit my butt, I need to get better photo's lol.
I don't know my exact hair type. It's super prone to frizz & needs a lot of product. I have S curls but it's lost a lot of shape/bounce since they're so long now.
First time I used a curling iron- Click to see - too big to post here!

Thank youuu .
I love your videos, waterlily!
Well, this was my hair in Dec 2010:
Nov 2011:
and now it's as long as it is. I only cut my ends every 2-4 months, and not too much at a time. I don't have the best ends, but I feel like I never do, even when I had shorter hair & regular trims.
I wouldn't give up my long hair even though it has many cons. I feel like I look bad with shorter hair ;(. I DREAD SHOWERS. Detangling takes forever, and I shed so much. I wash my hair 1x a week so that's why it's probably so bad. But I honestly don't have the time/patience to do more. I need to do more masks or something, because my hair doesn't have a lot of shine. It never really did though.

wowo!!! so beautiful, you should have such good patience to maintain long hair!!
and even with long hair you seem to have good volume at the top, how do you achieve that??and do you have like a U-cut at the back with layers. Also I feel like with long hair my curl pattern seem to go away and wavy pattern sets in, is that the same case for you?

Thank you! I love your hair, too! I usually wear my hair flipped to one side (either one, just never really down the middle), and i think that's where the volume comes in. It's never been thin though. I don't have any layers at all! It's all one length, with MAYBE a few pieces shorter than others because I trim my own hair & it never looks perfect. I want some layers, but I'm scared haha.
My hair has lost some volume and curl pattern, yes. If I cut it, it would bounce right up. Not as much as yours though, I have more of a long "S" shape. However, I don't really mind what it's become. I feel like it's less poofy which I like, lol.

Yay! I'm glad you like the videos.
Looks like you were about where I am now two years ago. I'm trying to see how long I can grow my hair. Crossing my fingers it will grow as fast as yours. I am trying to stay away from my hairstylist, and trim my own hair, even though she gives such nice cuts, because she chops off a lot.
My hair isn't even as long as yours and I dislike keeping up with it. I would wash that often if not for my dry scalp. I feel like long straight hair would be so much easier because you could brush it out everyday instead of waiting for washes and having to comb out so many knots...

I have dry scalp, too. If I didn't, I'd probably wash every 2 weeks! I HATE IT. Haha. I try my best not to touch/scratch it so it doesn't flake. A lot of your methods for buildup work, but seriously getting through my hair to my scalp to scrub/rub TAKES FOREVER AND IS SO ANNOYING. I've had my hair straight for over a week now & it gets so knotty because I forget to brush 1-2 times a day. I'm not used to it.
I can't straighten my own hair (only upkeep) because I just don't have the energy/skill to do it, and the lady was so brutal with my hair. It was the first time I've been in a salon for over 2 years. NEVER AGAIN lol. She also used all cones which I haven't used in years either. I have to wash and do an amazing deep condition....my scalp needs it.
Good luck growing your hair! It's really all about waiting it out. Your curls look great at any length though. If you can't make it & need to cut, don't stress too much .
Has anyone applied a DC mask to dry straight hair, then washed it? Or should I wash or wet first?

I usually at least get my hair wet first and then apply the DT. I feel like the hair absorbs the moisture better this way. If your hair has lots of cone products in it though, you may want to wash first, or they could prevent moisture getting it. D:
