I am having serious gel problems!
Hi, everyone! I'm having problems--gel problems. Currently I'm using the EcoStyler Olive Oil gel and LALSG. BUT it seems as though these gels are too thick, consistency-wise, and they both leave my hair slightly frizzy, dry, and flaky. When I use the Garnier Fructis Pure Clean gel, my curls are defined, shiny, and even clumpy! I'm baffled. What could be the problem? Is there an ingredient that I may be sensitive to?

If you are getting good results with the Garnier, maybe toss the others or try to swap them. Sometimes a change in the dewpoint will change how a gel works for you. I find thinner gels easier to work with, except for KCCC which is different from all the others.

You're probably sensitive to proteins. I had the same problem with Eco styler it has hydrolyzed wheat protein; And L.A. Looks gel has keratin amino acids. Both of these gels dry my hair and scalp out after a while. I really like the garnier pure clean gel, it works great for updo's. I also like KCCC and biotera gel, it's a knock off of the biolage gelee.

Olive Oil Eco is my favorite Eco gel. I've never had any issues with it. With my current wng though, I tried the Fantasia IC gel (the clear one) and sealed my gel with a little Olive Oil and I really like the results. The hold is softer, it was never really crunchy, great definition and my hair feels great and I'm on par to get at least 5 day hair, just in time for weekly wash day. Sealing my gel with an oil is something that I plan to do from now on.

Thank you, ladies! I may be sensitive to some proteins but it's odd because my hair loves protein treatments. And I never thought to seal a gel with an oil! Thanks for the ideas! :)
