Do you still use Curls products after reformulations/etc?

I'm curious how much of an effect these Curls fiascos that keep occuring have had on fans of Curls products. I'm not suggesting anyone stop using her products or remain loyal to them. I'm just curious as to the perceptions of others since I know my opinion but not the scope of others' opinions.

I'm basing my question on the threads (these are the most recent ones):

http://www.naturallycurly.com/phpBB/...ic.php?t=98557
http://www.naturallycurly.com/phpBB/...ic.php?t=95108
http://www.naturallycurly.com/phpBB/...ic.php?t=97580

Definitions:
Option 1--This is all about trust. By choosing this option, you are saying that if a new product came out, you wouldn't trust the ingreds to remain accurate on the website.

Option 2--This is all about the ingreds, not trust. This option is for those who discontinued use of products because of cones/other ingreds being added. If you don't use cones or other ingreds now in Curls products but would use a new Curls product or reformulation without cones or whatever ingred you are avoiding, this is the option you would choose.

Option 3--This option is completely about results. You have to have tried the new formulation to vote for this option. If you didn't like your results with a certain ingred so you didn't purchase, that would be Option 2. If you tried new formulation(s) and didn't like the results, this option is for you.

Option 4--If you don't purchase Curls products anymore because they aren't available at CurlMart (and none of the options above apply), this option is for you. This may be because you are in an area that Curls doesn't ship to or prefer CurlMart's CS and/or selection.

Option 5--This option is not about trust, ingreds, or results but solely about CS and nc.comer experiences posted. If these stories influenced you to not purchase Curls products anymore, this is your option.

Option 6--This option is for those who continue to use Curls products and have tried/continue to use some of the newer formulations. If you haven't tried any new formulations but plan to, please don't vote until you have because you may fall under Option 3 and can't change your vote afterward.

Feel free to just vote unanimously in the poll or vote in the poll then post a comment.
Well, as my posted topic may have suggested, I think I shall be phasing Curls out. I do not want to go back to using 'cones and I do not like the seemingly inconsistant product formulations. I know they are not the only company who change product forumulations though.
Think I'm 3b-ish...maybe some 3a there too...plus wavy roots....I'm just a mixed bag! CG since August '05
several of those actually applied. Mostly I can't trust the ingredients list, secondly I don't use cones. Even if I did use cones they change the formulas so much I can't trust that a product I like will be the same the next time I order.
Just as soon as they started reformulating willy nilly and the ingredients lists were wrong I stopped using them right then. I swapped off what I had and erased my bookmarks to their site.

Low porosity, medium texture.

If it smells good put it in your hair, if it tastes good spit it out!
I chose option 1, even though it's a combination of 1 and 2. I just realized (due to a recent post about it) that the CEAHT I recently got now has cones in it. I'm pretty sure the ingredients list on the site didn't indicate that when I bought it and I was wondering why it seemed to behave differently in my hair than the sample I bought from Sista's Place a while ago. It's really not cool to do a switcheroo like that on your customers with nary a warning. I won't be buying from them any more.

Edited to add:

I realize many big companies change formulations often with out letting customers know, but Curls is a small comany that is very familiar with this website and the CG routine. It would have been nice if they put a little line of text that "this now has cones" above the product. It's not like they've never heard of CG and not using shampoo or whatnot.

I will use up my current stash of Curls products, but I won't reorder. I know that the bottles I have now contain the old ingredients & am happy with those, but I would've appreciated an email, a note on the site, something!! - indicating that the ingredients had changed.

2b~~fine texture~~normal porosity (except for highlights, which are high)~~normal elasticity~~medium density

Shampoo: Still use sulfates, but only on roots
Rinse out: Deva One C, JC Too Shea, Original Sprouts Deep Conditioner
Curl Enhancers: KCCC; JC Rocking Ringlets, JC Spiralicious, & Confident Coils
Styler: BRHG (over any and all curl enhancers) - this is the one product that I never change - absolute HG!!

I

I chose the first option - I will not be re-ordering at all.

I found a much better product for my hair than Spiral Curls Cream in AG Re:Coil (my HG product) anyway and I am searching for Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel to replace the Curls Goddess Glaze that I like.

So I will use them up (the GG probably sooner than later since I like it very much for second day hair) and SCC for "off" days or days when my hair is up.
HG's: (I alternate)
DEP Sport Gel, B&A Gel, Aura Naturalle Gel
(gel from mid-length down only, all used over a leave in)

Method: Air dry 20 minutes, then blow dry for volume.

2/3 mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color for gray, protein sensitive but I still need it sometimes, glycerin-sensitive (I think) in high humidity, NOT CG but like stuff w/o silicones and that rinses out clean, wash with regular S&C 2x a week.

Of course the whole nc.com/curlmart thing with curls put a bad taste in my mouth for ever ordering from Curls, and I never did. Like I said in the other thread, the CEAHT was the only product that worked for me, and I do love it (before the reformulation), it's an HG condish for me. Or was. And I would have loved to have tried milkshake, but not bad enough to order from a company that I really don't feel that I can trust.

Option 1 and 5 both apply. It has been non stop controversy with this line and owner since the introduction. I personally liked two of the products but due to inaccuracy of ingredients, negative interactions with the owner and reading threads about the products, would never buy them again.
As noted in one of the NC.com articles, the number of products for curly hair has grown immensely in the past few years. I can't believe how the list has grown just on Curlmart. There are many, many more options than Curls. It has been easily replaced for me. There are lots of consistent product lines and great owners (Jess (Jessicurl), Kelly (MopTop) Lorraine (Devacurl) and the owner of Curl Junkie). These woman are all striving to produce a consistent quality product with no mystery surrounding them.

I really can't vote because I'm too new to the products, just received my first samples last week. The only ones I was interested in were the Milkshake & Souffle, and so far they don't have any ingredients i can't use. I've read so many here were liking them so much I had to try it. I'm still experimenting. I haven't quite got the right combination of product yet, but I think it's going to be somethng I'll want to have around for a softer, more natural look.

Am I right in understanding that she keep changing the ingredients? It's sounding like when she gets a real good formula that works well and many people love, she then changes it? If that's what's happening do you think we could try writing her, maybe she doesn't realize what her customers want out of her products? Just a thought.

I voted 5, but it's a combination of 1 and 5. The ingredient fiasco is the main issue, but after all that I just don't trust the owner. If she changes her products without bothering to announce it, who knows what else she's concealing? I just get the feeling her business is not one I want to have dealings with.

I would feel the same if drugstore.com (who frequently posts a line about "due to packaging updates, the product received could differ from the one pictured"), amazon.com, or newegg.com started mixing stuff up on me. If I ordered a Sony DVD+/- IDE burner from newegg.com and what arrived was an external USB DVD burner, I'd be annoyed. There's a big trust issue when you can't feel/touch/inspect an item for yourself.

When some of the big 3--P&G (Aussie, Herbal Essences, Pantene, etc), Unilever (Dove, Suave, etc), or J&J (Neutrogena, Aveeno, etc) change products' ingredients, it's up to me to inspect as I hold the bottle in my hand at the store. That's why I believe trust with internet-based companies is so vital.

Fortunately, it's been my experience that negative trust issues have been isolated to the Curls brand and have not affected my opinions/comfort level with Jessicurl, Mop Top, Curl Junkie, Blended Beauty, Curlisto, Oyin Handmade, etc. And I love CurlMart as much...maybe more...than ever for their awesomeness (though I have ordered some of the brands I listed from the brand websites to get a special, etc so they were cool too).
Maybe CURLS caters to a market that doesn't necessarliy follow the CG routine to a tee. Some curl types actually need a little coneage and maybe the products weren't enough for those types. Silicones aren't always a *bad* thing so maybe the owner thinks its better to make sure the products are effective vs. making sure they are CG friendly.

The cones that have been added are the same ones you'll find in numerous brands. For example, Deva. Nothing a little Low Poo can't remove
I use some of the reformulated products, and they work better for me than the originals. I use the Milkshake and WC. I haven't tried the Spirals Cream, but I'm sure it works fine(on my list of products to try).

And to be fair, CURLS actually did post about the ingredient changes on their site(on the main page).

From the site(CURLS news):

CURLS packaging received a new look! We also updated our ingredient lists with the technical terms required for exporting....

With this makeover, we have also updated ingredient lists to reflect the technical terms required for registering in the FDA's Export Database. 2007 marks a year of growth for CURLS, both domestic and internationally! You will also notice that we have added great new key ingredient descriptors so you can understand the functionality behind key ingredients selected for our formulations.
Companies reformulate their products all the time. My concern is that the products perform the same(if not better). Luckily, I don't CG(I shampoo twice a month), so the changes don't necessarily affect me. And lucky for me, the products work better.

And I agree with you, Sahara. I think CG'ers are a smaller percentage of the company's overall sales, so the company is likely catering to its main customer base.
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

I think the issue is not the reformulations themselves, but not announcing them in a timely manner. There is another post right now by someone who bought the products when the old ingredients were still listed on the website, but received the new formulations in her order. The website was only updated after this person received her order of products she will likely never use. That's the part that I think is messed up.

The company definitely has to do what is best for them and what fits the majority of their customers, and if that means their customers prefer cones, then so be it. I just think it's a shame for those people who preferred the original version and will lose out on what was originally a great product for them. I'm sure there are other forums with curlies that actually prefer the new version.

Several apply for me too. I stopped using them because they didn't work so well for me and the fact that I don't like the way they seem to do business. I have read too much weird stuff and that stupid blog that was started... Nope, nothing I wanna contribute money to.
I still use Milkshake and will continue to do so. I probably won't repurchase Spiral Curls Cream, but wans't going to even before I heard it had a silicone. My issues is the fragrance.

From Eccentric_Kurlz post it sounds like some new exportinng rules drove the ingredients list changes. The same thing happened with Blended Beauty. They had to use some official descriptions for basically the same ingredients they had been using...except the ditched the murumuru butter.

Jessicurl exports too and I haven't seen her change any of the ingredients in her products, which I'm very thankful for.
