Help! Calling all fine texture, 2c/3a, high porosity, low elasticity

Hello!

I am fairly new to the CG/Mod-CG method, but I have done as much research as I could in the past month. I know I have to tell you my hair properties in order for you to help me, so here we go!

Before the protein treatment, my hair used to have almost defined curls but my hair looked like it had little to no hold.. it almost looked dry but if you touched it, it was soft. However, the curls wouldn’t bounced back if I stretched them. So this what I think I have: *fine texture, 2c/3a, high porosity, low elasticity*

My hair used to be normal porosity and elasticity, however I Highlighted my hair about 4 months ago and my hair has made a turn to the worse. Although I like the highlights, I know it altered the porosity of my hair. I got a haircut 2 days ago and used the CJ Repair Me but they straightened my hair….i knowwww… =/ So now Im on my 3rd straight-hair but I miss my curls and Im sooo tempted to use the Repair ME again today, but don’t know if it’s safe.. I def don’t want to make my hair worse. Also, I was thinking on doing the ACV Rinse after my protein treatment so it can close the cuticle. Will this be okay?

I also heard that HENNA is good for high porosity hair. Does anybody have any feedback on this taking in consideration my highlighted hair? The highlights look nice but the health of my hair is more important so I wouldn’t mind placing an even color (close to my natural color) and let my hair rest from color until I get any grays

Recently I went on a big hair shopping-spree and will be trying the following:

CoWash/Shampoo: CJ Daily Fix, SM Retention Moisture Shampoo
R/O: CJ Strengthening Cond, Trader Joes TTC, TN
D/T: CJ Hibuscus & Banana Deep Fix, CJ Repair Me
L/I: SM C/S Milk, Yes to Carrots L/I (w protein), DevaCurl Set me Free
Stylers: KCCC, Kiss My Face UMG, Beautiful Curls Curl Defining Gel, BRHG.
Oil: Jojoba, Coconut & Argan

I haven’t tried all the stylers yet but I think I need a leave in conditioner that will give me moisture that lasts all day. I used TTTC as a L/I but not sure it mixes well with everything yet, I only tried it w/KCCC and it was fine but my curls didn’t hold after I scrunch-out the crunch. SM C/S Milk works ok but I have to make sure I don’t put too much bc It can flake if I use it with KCCC. Let me know if you have any other product recommendations or nice combinations with the products that I’ve already listed.

Thank you all for your help!!!
Melissa

I don't know anything about henna so I can't help you there. But, the highlights are already done so, if you like the way they look I would just leave them. I don't think another color process would help the condition of your hair any (at least, not a traditional chemical process - not sure about the henna).

It's a little strange that the PT made your hair straight - not sure if that has to do with the type of protein? Normally I would say a PT followed by a DT would be the way to go, but I'm not sure about how your hair is reacting. Maybe it's the type of protein? Maybe you need something stronger? I don't have much experience with PT's - I do remember reading on another thread somewhere about others having similar reactions to protein, but I don't recall what they ended up doing - so maybe someone else will chime in on that.

Either way, I think your curls just need a lot of gentle treatment and TLC.
2c/3a, botticelli/wavy/'swavy (huh?)
fine, dense, normal porosity/elasticity, dry climate

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!

Ah - gotcha. Well, in that case, how did your hair respond to the repair me? If it liked it, you could try it again next time you wash. If you're worried about overdoing the protein, you could try something with a little less protein - like the CJ strengthening conditioner. You'll just have to experiment and see how your hair responds. If you get to the point that your hair starts to feel brittle and straw like, then it's probably time to back off the protein. You should also make sure that you balance the protein with moisture. Good luck
