Shea Moisture...why?
The first product I tried from Shea Moisture was their Deep Treatment Hair Mask and it DRIED my hair out and made it feel gunky and stiff and ...well I used it right, but it was so wrong for me. I was iffy on trying their Moisture Retention Shampoo but I gave in and I LOVE it! It makes my hair so nice and helps it to be soft. Why would two products from the same line with seemingly similar ingredients react so differently in my hair? Any ideas?

The same thing happened to me...and with the same products! I absolutely love SM Moisture Retention Shampoo, an HG for me It leaves my hair super silky, soft, moisturized, and clean.
The Deep Treatment Masque did nothing at all for me. I think it was just way too thick and never absorbed into my low porosity hair, and its thickness shielded my hair from more moisture getting in too, leaving me with gross, dry hair.
However, I really, really like the SM Restorative Conditioner from the same yellow-labeled line! The masque was thick and chunky, but the conditioner is smooth and creamy(: It has great slip and instantly absorbs. I don't use it as a rinse out, though, just a leave-in. I have hair that's a bit longer than shoulder-length, and I find that after using a dime size of the shampoo, I just need to scrunch in one pump of this. This is sooo much better than the masque! I recommend it.
By the way, based on our properties, I think we might be hair twins!

The mask is a flop, everything else I've tried (shampoos and smoothie) are awesome.

Same here - I use and love the SMR poo and the condish, which I use as a LI, and use a different RO.
The masque... It was ok when mixed with other stuff. (like I'd mix it with my RO, add EVOO, honey, and a little ACV, and use it as a DT that way.)
Haven't tried any of the stylers, tho.
ETA: I do love the elixir, too! But spray it on your hand and then apply - straight onto your hair is too heavy!

I agree with the hair twins! ^_^ I think maybe that was my problem too? My low porosity hair made it not work right on me I'm going to have to try that conditioner though. So you use it as a leave in only? Do you use a rinse out at all?

Yay hair twins!
Haha, anyway, I do only leave it in because the shampoo, for me, acts like a cleanser and a rinse out in one because it's so moisturizing. But sometimes I'll leave a little bit of the SM Restorative Conditioner on my ends for a few minutes while I shave if I've used too much shampoo or something, and then I still apply it as a leave-in. I've found, though, less is more with both products. I only need maybe a nickel size of the shampoo and one pump of condish(:
