I didn't see your hair properties other than 2c /3a, and they're something that contributes in a big way to what ingredients will work on your hair. That said, the SM Curling Souffle has a good amount of glycerin in it, which can cause some dryness and frizz if the air is dry. Additionally, BRHG has a good amount of protein in it, which can create some poof depending on your current moisture /protein balance. Just a guess, but I'd point to the protein in BRHG before figuring the Souffle is the problem. Perhaps try scrunching a little extra souffle into the ends and see if that helps.
Ends of hair tend to be more damaged than the rest of the strands simply because they're the oldest part which has been exposed to the elements longer. So, the ends sometimes require more moisture and less protein than the rest, or depending on hair properties, they sometimes want more protein and more moisture both.
