Default Cowashing when prone to build up?

Anyone had success with this? I always have build up, no matter how many times i shampoo, it always comes back. Idk why but it does. Anyone have this problem but can cowash? Or should it just be avoided?

I always had buildup with co-washing and I would clarify with BS every once in a while when I co-washed. I started using DCNP and no longer have a problem.

My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

How often does it come back? My hair is very prone to buildup. I avoid silicones and mineral oil. I still get buildup from my oils, conditioners, gels, creams but not as quickly as with cones. I clarify once a week.

Maybe add a low poo once a week? You can put conditioner on your ends, low poo your scalp, then work it through as you rinse. Then condition as needed. If you do this midweek (assuming you clarify at the end of the week) it may help. ?

I am prone to oil build-up at times with my porous hair, and that has helped me.

It never really leaves. Even after i clarify, i still have it on my scalp.
I use my shea moisture curl enhancing poo twice a week. Every two days or so, and i never clarify. Maybe i should, its just so stripping. And the only "shampoo" i have is the neutrogena anti residue shampoo which is pretty harsh.

I had that SM curl shampoo and for my hair it was not strong enough cleanser. I need all product out of my hair once a week bc I'm so prone to buildup. I actually found it is good for my shampoo to be slightly drying for my hair but not too harsh. My dc's do better with a clean slate. I like TJ's Tea Tree Tingle shampoo, SM purification mask and bentonite clay.

so you shampoo, then dt?
And you like Sm purification as a deep conditioner?
I just have trouble knowing when to deep condition and when i need a little protein or a little moisture. My hair feels the same always. Unless i over did protein, but i haven't in forever.

Would adding a little bit of baking soda to my SM shampoo once a week be too much or too harsh?

I co-wash most of the time, but I definitely need to shampoo/low poo every once in a while. For a low poo I like CJ gentle cleansing, and L'oreal evercreme nourishing, I also just ordered herbnlife royal rinse and creme of nature argan poo, which have rave reviews *crosses fingers* but occasionally I need a sulfate poo. For that I love Phyto phytorhum poo.

I only use shampoos with cocamidopropyl betaine. For me it is the magic ingredient because it is not a sulfate but is strong enough to remove even a silicone. I found the low poos without this don't work as well for me. I also found prepooing with EVOO helps offset a lot of dryness associated with clarifying. My hair hates baking soda but other people get good results so you might want to try it but definitely don't get heavy handed with it. It that doesn't work you could still use your curl and shine in between clarifying. I dc after every shampoo since I clarify to restore the moisture. But I don't use p mask to dc. I use it sometimes to prepoo.

I'm prone to buildup because of hard water, and I have to low poo once in awhile. I also use a low poo with cocomidapropyl betaine in it.

Do you ever use ACV? I add it to my RO and find it helps with our hard water.

Also, using a co-wash with EDTA helps. I think most of the Suaves have it.

There are some poo's meant for hard water that you could use to clarify with as needed, too!

No, because i apply my ro and leave it in, i don't wanna leave in ACV. Unless it'd be good? Hmm. :/
I thought i had such a good routine going and now I'm all confused.

I leave a lot of my RO in, too. I just add the ACV to it, then rinse as I comb through and then add a little more RO.

You can always do an ACV rinse BEFORE the RO, I suppose.

I just clarified with Neutrogena anti residue shampoo and applied gvp conditioning balm instead of my normal Tresemme Naturals and I'm gonna see how this goes. I always have the frizz and spider web frizz when my hair is wet, but now that i clarified with the nar shampoo it's not "as bad." So maybe i should get a sulfate shampoo and start clarifying once a week? I have scalp issues and some dandruff, especially in winter so maybe a tea tree oil shampoo? Has anyone heard of Jasons Tea Tree shampoo? Thoughts on ingredients or the product?

Vinegar will be a help, but imo it's not a cure. You will still have to clarify occasionally.

My area (and I've checked because I suspected it) is extremely high. I will always have to at least low poo occasionally because of it. I second the EDTA rec....CJDF has it and it works wonderfully with my water.

That's absolutely an option, but again the cocomidapropyl betaine will work for that too. That way if you use a low poo with it you can cover your bases and do a sulfate poo once in awhile. There are a number of good low poos with TT in them.
