Does anyone here use honey or Grapeseed oil?
I went to the store yesterday and bought Thrifty Bee Honey, Pompeian Grapeseed Oil, and Organic Coconut Oil. I'm really excited to use the coconut oil, but I'm a bit confused on the right way to use the other two.
Does anyone else use any of these products? How do you use them? What does honey do for your hair (or your skin)? I usually just use olive oil, so coconut oil and grapeseed oil are very new to me. What are the benefits of each of these oils? Which oil do you like to use best on your hair?
Sorry for all the questions ^___^;;
I don't regularly use honey, other than in my pt every couple of weeks. It's moisturizing, a humectant, and helps increase shine. Used in flaxseed gel, it increases hold. You can add a bit to your conditioner as well, for a little increased moisture, or do the same and add an oil or other moisturizing ingredients for a homemade dt. Mixed with water, it does produce a small amount of natural peroxide, so if you decide to use it regularly and are worried about lightening your hair, zap it in the microwave for a few seconds. Warming it up neutralizes the peroxide.
Coconut oil is one type of oil that can absorb into the hair cuticle. Though it isn't a protein itself, it does increase the hair's ability to retain protein. So, if you're protein sensitive, it can mimic the effect of a protein.
My hair seems to hate straight oils, so I haven't used grapeseed. However, it's a lighter oil that many like to use to seal. It works for some finer haired people where heavier oils weigh them down.
I like to mix honey, coconut oil, and a conditioner to make a deep conditioner.
