Default How long were you cg before you saw real improvement?

It's been years since I used the cg method , I have been using cones, harsh products, flatironing and also coloring my hair a lot . Last night I picked up cg products and did a final sulfate poo to remove buildup.

It took about two weeks for me to start seeing results

on the other hand- It took me 5 years to get it just right, to the point where I am comfortable with the products and methods that I use and can get consistant results.

I would say I saw results right away, but definitely did not hit my potential for at least 5-6 months. Right away I noticed my hair felt softer and more hydrated... though there were still frizzies and bad hair days in there. After several months and trying different product combos, I really hit my stride. Still working on perfection though!

PDQ for me! I had to go through what most of us do, with the Deva line, deciding No, this is not going to work - and posting here on line, where others were so helpful! I do not use a conditioner to wash - I do not use a cleansing conditioner, and I wont. I dont use cones or glycerin. My hair started feeling better almost immediately - I wasnt brushing it and beating it up that way - and I changed my salon. Several times.

Right away. The minute I stopped using shampoo my hair changed. And using gel on soaking wet hair added to the transformation. My hair was a bit flat for a bit and it took some experimenting to find what my hair really liked but that didn't take long and within a few weeks I had my products and routine pretty much down and haven't really changed it since. I still experiment for fun but always go back to my regular products.

3-4 co-washes? But then I feel like my hair peaked after 3-4 months.

Thanks! Yes, I use LA Looks Sport Gel every day. In the winter I sometimes add some Ojon Restorative if my hair is feeling dry. I also recently discovered Living Proof Styling Cream which I really like for extra definition. But LA Looks will always be my main styling product. Love the stuff and so cheap.

i and others noticed the difference right away. and it kept getting better as the months, years went on.
as the others said, you may have to do some experimenting with different products to find what works just right for you. but in my opinion, it is all better, you just see how good it is and realize how good it can look, so....

btw, others say they had an adjustment time. what happens is that once you stop using sulfates you stop stripping your hair of oils. our scalps are still in 'add more oil mode' so for some people their hair might look a little oily the first few weeks. my hair is so dry it never did, just got more and more curly. but hang in there and see.

I've been CG for three weeks now, and am starting to see good results. I've been getting a lot more compliments on my hair - unsolicited ones, sometimes from people who don't know me well or who are total strangers. I no longer look like I stuck my finger in a socket. First-day shampoo days are no longer a nightmare (back when I used sulfates, I basically couldn't wear or style my hair down for day one or two because it was so dry and puffy). I've been having fun trying new products and new combinations of products. I'm still struggling a bit with it not feeling too greasy when I touch my hair. Still, it looks better than it has in a long time, and I hope it gets better and better every month. I'm still trying to overcome the damage from overwashing/stripping my hair every week for years, and I have color-treated hair, so I have to be carefully with the puffy and dryness issues.

I've been CG for a month and a half now. I started really noticing it was getting better after 2 weeks, but it hasn't stopped.

Today a friend who I used to see 3 to 4 times a week, and was away for 3 weeks in a row saw me and the first thing she noticed and told me was how pretty my hair was. That made me think, and... yes, indeed it is getting better everyday.

I started seeing noticeable results within 2 weeks. I did go through an "adjustment period" where my hair felt greasy during that time as well, but that has since passed. My hair is also becoming more and more 3A; it was more 2C-ish when I first went CG.

my hair went from 2C to 3A and sometimes, like in summer, it looks like 3B hair.

Within 3 weeks. Then I felt pretty "established" as a 3a, but after one year of CG, under normal conditions, I'm really mostly 3b on 90% of my head. In very humid conditions, I'm about 1/2 3c. (I have a finicky crown/top layer). I never had any "greasy" issues, but, at first, I kept shocking myself at the huge amounts of moisturizers I can load into my hair.

I do "cheat" from being completely CG now that it's been awhile, but never on a day to day or regular basis. More just for experimentation to get different curl looks and shapes. (Some products can truly change the shape of my curls). My "cheating" is that I'll occasionally use some styling products with non-water-soluble silicones, and, I happen to be in love with a co-wash/leave-in that contains amodimethicone. If my hair stops feeling fulling rinsed, or it gets foamy when I put in stylers, I'll do a low-poo wash, and then back off the non-CG products for a couple of weeks.

Just to clarify, (because some people think of "CG" as only baking soda for cleansing and apple cider vinegar for rinsing), when I refer to "CG" I mean the method of using regular conditioner as a hair wash, and completely avoiding SLS, ALS, and non water-soluble silicones.

No matter how much I cheat with dimethicone and amodimethicone, though, I will never again use products with SLS or ALS. They truly destroy my hair. For the little bit I use these silicones, they seem to wash off as much as they need to come off with coco-betaine cleanser.

I'm in my second week, and I think (though maybe it's wishful thinking!) that there seems to be more elasticity. I'm not wild about it yet, though.

But I've blow-dried my hair every day for 10 years and had bleach-based highlights constantly for the same period. So I knew going into this that I was not going to be like some of the girls on this site who have knock-out hair the minute they stop using sulfates and silicones! CG can't completely heal serious damage, so I think the right approach is to look at it as taking care of your new hair growth going forward.

It was months before I saw a real improvement because I was still under the impression that I had to shampoo for my hair to act right. But after finding the right products & a deva cut, my curls are amazing. Then I saw a real improvement in 2 or 3 weeks.
