How do you ladies go about choosing your first curly girl cut?

I'd love to hear an answer to this too! I have a hair appt on Tues (hopefully the weather hold out!) The woman who is doing the cut is recommended by a curly friend. The stylist has thick curly hair (sounds similar to mine). I'm a little afraid. Do I just put myself in her hands? Not even sure what I'd suggest. I love when someone has a V cut into the back and thought about requesting that but my hair isn't quite hitting the middle of my back and I'm afraid it'll get too poofy on the sides. I'm curious to see if she decides to cut me dry (as that seems to be the most acceptable way to cut curlies). I don't cry over my hair anytime I've gotten a not so good cut but I sure hope this comes out good!

I used the salon tab to find some salons in my area. I wasn't too hopeful, living in Northern AL right now but, there were at least three salons in the area with referrals. I have an appt. in two weeks with the one with the most referrals. Looking forward to it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the deva cut is a style in and of itself. It has a v-shaped back and face framing layers. It is individualized to each person's particular curls, but the shape of the cut is more or less the same. I think that if you choose a style, like for instance a curly bob, that would not be a deva cut. However, the stylist could cut it in a way that could maxmize your curls.

I actually have the options to go to a deva cut stylist or go the salon where the women who wrote live curly live free owns. But I had read before going to take pictures of what you like and I'm not sure what I would even ask for

i don't live in florida so have never been to tiffany of live curly live free, but from all i've heard over the years and pics that i've seen, i think you would be in good hands with her.
pictures are helpful to a stylist, but if you don't find any, then try to explain yourself as best as you can.

there is a thread in the salon/stylist forum started by tiffany (struttswife is her nc username) a while back, "what to tell my stylist," and offers some very helpful info.
