Bun ideas or other protective styles?

My hair is long enough to do basically any style. I wear it down pretty much always. Except when I'm at home sitting around. I wanna find some cute dos and stuff to start wearing it up and protect it more. I'm doing all the other steps to protect it, i need to be aware of environmental damage or it rubbing on my clothes as well. Any pics or ideas?

Anybody please? Especially since my "conditioner only" isn't giving me the best results lately. I need to do some updos with it..

Thank you! Unfortunately my hair won't hold many of her styles, but some are worth a try.

I do a "topsy tail" bun. It's a low pony, that you sort of loop the pony back through.... (you part your pony BEHIND the hair tie, and stick the pony through that.)

Then I roll the ponytail up into a bun and secure with spin pins or bobby pins.

The other thing I'll do is twist my hair up into a twist and the clamp it in place. I'll either leave my hair hanging down or I'll twist it into a bun and pin in place.

I have a couple others, but that's the main two.

Oh! I do sometimes braid it, too.

Have you heard of twist/spin pins? They make a really cute messy bun with no bands or anything showing through and they're super strong.

Really I just like messy buns in all forms. High, low, lopsided... They're great and can be easily accessorized with headbands, pins and clips.

I have sticky hair, like velcro, it tangles easily so it is hard to style - so far I find that the best style is to take my front/side hair and roll it back to behind my head, then slide a hair comb in to hold it there, on either side. I also wear it in a pineapple, and also i have a bun starter that I bought from a hair extension place. Basically it is a donut shaped mesh "o" but it has a snap that opens, so it is one long coiled tube. I roll my hair ends around it and spread the hair along the length of the tube, then roll my hair into a bun with it. Then I snap the two ends together and hey presto, perfect bun. It does tend to stretch my curls out though!

Other option is a loose, messy braid...have you checked out waterlily716's youtube videos? She has a ton of vids on curly hair, tips and styling
Finer, mixed with coarser strands, low-porosity, wavy curly whirly hair...3A, 2C hair. Medium thickness, medium elasticity.
S-shaped hair with corkscrew ends. My hair is even more confused than me ;p
My hair officially hates protein Once a month is enough!
Currently a fan of TiGi products, (rock on, TiGi Curlesque styling creme!) but that will soon change - I am a self-avowed product junkie! Yay!
BIG fan of supersoaker method - thanks Rudeechick!

I think you can make them out of socks, too - you can go on youtube and type in bun sock and it should give you hits on how to make your own with the solid "o" shape, the one that doesn't open, you twirl your ends in and then kinda push/roll your hair into it.

I think there is another type too, it is a long strip of flexible material and it has a slot in the middle - you put your ends in the slot and then roll the hair up to make the bun, then twist the two ends together. good luck! Hth!

ETA by the way, your hair looks lovely just thought I would tell ya!

i really love these ideas! ive been looking for nice ideas for protective styling due to the colder weather. normaly i play around with a bun, ill change the position on my head, (high bun, low bun, side, etc) ive also been braiding it a bit and doing different things with the braid.

my hair: 3c, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

Thank you. <3
But you guys have great ideas, wow.
I'm gonna make a sock bun and tomorrow I'll be buying accessories to help make the bun more cute. And I'm gonna practice my braiding, lol sad i can't, i know. So i can spice them up even more. Love my curlies here, so helpful.
