Shea moisture help!

Like Tree5Likes

I have the curl enhancing smoothie and shampoo. I wanted to try the purification masque. Does it have protein? And the products are buy one get one 1/2 off. So i wanted to get another product. What do you guys suggest? I wanna get one with not a lot of protein. But if it's amazing and does have a lot of protein, I'll try it! Thanks!

It depends. Coconut oil IS protein rich, but some hair responds well to it and others don't. For example, my hair likes coconut oil in small doses. The only proteins I can use like there's no tomorrow are hydrolyzed proteins and amino acids. Coconut oil, silk protein, whatever ones I'm forgetting to list I can get away with...sparingly.

That being said, my favorite shea moisture product (besides the shampoo) is the curl and hold style milk. I use this and the smoothie (NEVER at the same time though!) on rotation when my hair could use more protein since I don't need it much. They're both great as stand alone products but if I use them together my hair gets all kinds of dry and brittle feeling.

Hmm. Well i have the nubian heritage evoo and moringa treatment masque, two tubs and liked it but it's gor decent protein. I currently use it twice a week. I was gonna buy this one for moisture and use it once and then the nubian heritage one once. But if they're both more protein rich then moisture, i didn't wanna waste my time. Does anyone have a favorite out of the yellow line? I think it's for dry and damaged hair, idk if it's a protein rich line but i was curious about it.

These are from the article below:

http://www.thenaturalhavenbloom.com/...l-and.html?m=1

2. Does coconut oil contain protein

No it does not. I repeat, no coconut oil does not contain protein. Oils are pressed out of seeds, in the case of coconut oil, heating up the flesh and straining it out. The oil is very easily separated from the flesh once heated using a sieve.

The straw like feel some people find with coconut oil is usually related to using too much product because coconut oil is not as viscous as other oils . Hardening of the hair is related usually to temperature because coconut oil solidifies at a fairly low temperature so a cold winter breeze can stiffen hair very fast.

Some people (like me) love coconut oil, other people just do not. It is a bit like marmite, if you find that even using less does not help ( see the fingertip tip ), just leave it!

3. Does coconut milk contain protein?

Yes coconut milk does contain protein. Coconut milk is made from suspending the flesh in water and may contain bits of the flesh. However this protein is usually not hydrolysed (yep hydrolysed again). Pretty much like eggs, it is unlikely to be as effective as a hydrolysed protein.

Coconut oil does not contain protein BUT it does hold protein in, so it's not good if your hair already has too much protein. If your protein balance is good, then it's a great thing! I just got the purification masque too and have the same SM products that you (OP) have, which I love. I haven't used the masque yet but I'll update once I do
2a/b
medium/thick
high porosity (from coloring)

Shampoo: Mop Top Gentle Shampoo
Co-wash: Chistophe Robin Lemon Cleansing Cream
RO: CJ strengthening, Kenra moisturizing
LI: Jessicurl Aloeba
DT: CJ rehab, Christophe Robin Prickly Pear Mask
PT: SS protein treatment, Ouidad 12 minute
Stylers: Jessicurl RR, SS Firm Hold Gel
Oils: caudalie, sweet almond
Yeah... Coconut oil does not have proteins or amino acids .. But coconut milk does..its great for a hot oil treatment and a very good moisturiser for hair n scalp. It is one among a few oils which is actually able to penetrate the hair shaft.it also acts as an anti fungal agent..

I use the purification masque primarily as a prepoo/DC on a weekly basis. I use the soufflé as a moisturizer/styler weekly as well. I don't use the shampoo. I have medium/coarse texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity. I don't need protein on a regular basis, but since I am strictly CG, I am trying to make sure I have the proper moisture/protein balance.

My hair is breaking now. Really noticed today while detangling. Theres small strands that are thin on the ends with no bulb at the top, or not that i can see and longer ones that i cant find a bulb on either. Idk anymore. I deep condition with a medium protein treatment overnight two times a week and use tresemme naturals moisturizing conditioner as a leave in and shampoo once or twice a week with giovanni triple treat shampoo and idk. Thats really it when it comes to my routine. I dont get it. Its stressing me out seeing the breakage when im trying SO hard.

I believe it's normal porosity, different on the ends from dying and because they're older ect, high density, medium strands. 3b.

I realized I'm pretty sure it is protein overload. idk what to do. I really wanna purchase Shea Moisture Purification masque because i do have scalp issues as well as i heard it moisturizes well.
Here's what i do 2/3 times a week.
Shampoo with Giovanni triple treat shampoo.
Condition with Tresemme Naturals moisturizing conditioner and leave it in.
Then air dry.

I was baggying 2/3 times a week with Nubian Heritage Evoo and Moringa deep treatment masque. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong? Should i cut it down to once with this one, once with something protein free and moisturizing like GVPCB with a little honey and jojoba oil added, and once with maybe the purification masque? Or is that too much? I'm just so confused. I'm ready to cut off all my hair. It's stressing me out!

I have build up, dandruff and itching. I am CG, but I shampoo with a sulfate free shampoo once every 2 - 3 weeks. As stated earlier I use the masque once a week as a prepoo/DC. It helps with itching and dandruff. I rinse it out, then co-wash with Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture, it is also my leave-in.
