Help with products!!!!

I'm still new to CG and I've been making my conditioner seriously multitask as my co-wash, RO, & LI but I'm thinking I need to change that. How do you pick a product for each thing? I've read where people use a cheap Suave or VO5 for their co-wash and use a different RO and a totally different LI.

I'm dying to try so many products I've read about & I'm not strictly stuck on Drugstore products only. I work right next door to a Sally's & an Ulta so I have access to other products (if they're worth it).

Any help/tips/advice is greatly appreciated.

There's a lot of trial and error involved in finding the right products and combination of products that bring out the best in your curls. Knowing your hair properties will help as porous hair will respond differently than non-porous hair to the same product. Fine hair will will respond differently than coarse hair. These links will help you rule out products that are not likely to work for you:

Many curlies use a cheap conditioner to co-wash as they go through a ton of it very quickly. A richer product may work better for a rinse out. Leave-ins are an individual preference. If using the same product works for you - keep doing it! But have fun experimenting with other combinations!

HGs: FSG, anything with glycerin, Tresemme Naturals conditioner, Curls Like Us cloths, satin pillowcases.
I'm more knowledgeable about protein free products but I'll try to make some suggestions.

Cowash: I don't cowash anymore but common ones are VO5, Suave Naturals and Tresemme Naturals.

Rinse out: GVP conditioning balm (Sallys), Yes to Cucumbers/Carrots, Tresemme Naturals.

Higher end ROs: Curl Junkie!

leave-in: you can use one of your cowashes or rinse outs as you well know. Other common ones are Kinky Curly Knot Today, Shea Moisture Smoothie or Curl Milk. My favs are ones you have to buy online and they are Oyin Hair Dew and Curl Junkie Beauticurls leave-in.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

@asianrunner thanks so much! I have both shea butter smoothie & milk but wasn't sure if I should use as styler or conditioner so I've been avoiding them. I'll be experimenting a lot now. And I plan to purchase Kinky Curly Knot Today this week. I've been dying to try that too.

@mhen76 thanks so much also. I did go to that link to determine my hair type/texture/porosity etc. So now I'm ready to try to experiment with different things.

It's good to know your texture, too. In general, fine hair loves/needs protein, coarse hair hates/doesn't need protein (or only likes certain ones.) Medium hair is usually pretty good with protein, but can like only certain ones.

The best place to start is to look for people with similar properties and see what they use. Most have it in their signatures.

Many of us rotate products. My hair has always satiated on products, even back in my shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out and style every day. Seldom let myself use any one product more then once in five days.
