Roller set and Saran Wrap results

So after a year without wearing my hair straight I decided to try this method. I find it low manipulation and not a lot of heat. Hopefully I don't get heat damage. I've been transitioning from serious heat damage since last year. I used to do dominican blowouts every weekend and that really messed up my curls. By the way I have devacut and I think it looks awsome straight too.

Mahogany curls has a video on YT she did a long time ago.

I saw a mahagonycurls video. Look for it on her channel. "Roller set and satin wrap" I think. Is one of her older videos.

Thanks. I used medium size magnetic rollers but just bc I didn't have the jumbo size handy ( I used my mom's). Next time I'm going to buy jumbo bc it took me 2 hours yo be dry, my hair is too long for medium lol. Imagine jumbo rollers I think I will get an even straighter look lol.

I don't know what a saran wrap is so I have to look it up, but in the winter I do roller sets a lot. It means I don't have to wet my hair every morning which is a big help!

Yay for roller sets. You look great.

It a brand of plastic wrap. The stuff you use to cover food.

What does the Saran wrap do for roller sets?

curlypearl 11-07-2012 04:59 AM

Thanks, Adthomas! I actually know what saran wrap is, I just wasn't aware of the method. I did look it up though. :hello2:

It helps set ur hair straight. It gets rid of the dents rollers leave in ur hair.

When I was relaxed I usually got a similar technique to this style done at the salon. They called it Flat wrap. They would rollerset then when it dried brush it out and make like a bowl shape around my head. Tie down with a scarf then put me back under drier. I liked it better than regular wrap because much more body.

In my relaxed days this was done to my hair as well! I will try it this weekend. I don't know how it will look on my natural hair but we'll see!!

Mahogany curls did it on her natural hair and it was beautiful. Check her video. I find for my hair it helps to go through with a rattail after major detangling because my curls are tight and I have a strong pattern. This makes my hair conform better to the shape of the rollerset.

just an idea..

my hair is about a 3b...with a little 3c underneath in the back, i try to stay away from heat like its the plague because my hair damages very easily, i have been rolling my hair also but i will do it on a weekend on a day when i dont have to go out, i use medium sized velcro rollers (i like medium because for some reason if i try to pull my hair completely straight without heat it tends to frizz on the bottom), i like velcro rollers because unlike magnetic rollers your hair doesnt have to be PERFECTLY and COMPLETELY wet, which means faster drying, i will let it air dry mostly and to speed up the process i will sit under the dryer *ON THE COLD SETTING* for like an hour or however long i feel like sitting there then once it is dry i will wrap it and just put my satin scarf on and sleep like that, the next morning i get the same results without any heat....for those talking about flexi rods, they are way easier to use (i only use about 10 on my entire head), dry faster, and are much easier to sleep on at night because they are more flat and dont come off my head, but i also noticed my curls dont come out as nice, ive noticed the flexi rods dont pull my roots as straight and they give me more sausage kind of curls and as with rollers when i use larger ones my hair tends to frizz so i tend to use flexi rods when im not really doing anything important yet i dont feel like just doing a wash n go
