did you use HIS as a leave in? And is HETT a mousse or gel?

I used Herbal Essences' Honey I'm Strong as a rinse out - I low-poo'ed, rinsed with ACV and water, then left the ACV and water in - then condished - then detangled, let it sit in for a bit, then rinsed out. I use a different LI, made primarily of mineral oil, because my hair likes that

HETT is Herbal Essences Totally Twisted, and it is a hard hold gel for curlies. Works great! Aussie Instant Freeze is a good gel too, for creating that hard gel cast...Next I want to try HESMU, HE's Set Me Up, also a hard-hold gel. And also want to check out the HEHIS 'poo. (though if it has SLS in it, I won't use it.) I have heard that the HE Moisturise Me (or some name like that - I know it has Moisture in the title) is also very good, as a condish, if that helps

BIG fan of supersoaker method - thanks Rudeechick!

I haven't had a cut since growing my hair from skin bald 2 years ago but I just came across this on one of my longer strands which is about 22 inches long.

I cut it off but now I think it's time to get my ends searched and any split ends clipped. Overall my hair is healthy but this strand wrecked my nerves lol

I searched and could not find any more but so glad I caught this one

Has anyone used a coney conditioner like HIM for a DT?

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

Looks like I'm going back to cones. My hair responded well to mixed chicks and who am I to deny her?

@GoddessCurls
Using cone packed products for DT is risky cause you already limited on number of days before you have to shampoo lol but I left it on overnight and it made my hair too soft lol

@MissDarcei
Regarding the Mixed Chicks lol I stay away from products that are geared toward only female or only male cause it just sounds silly but it probably is not moisturizing enough if it can't handle guy hair too LOL

I didn't read the whole thread, but this is my opinion:

I joined this board in 2004 and I was strictly on the hair boards for the first 2 years. I do not like the CG thing. I tried it for a year or so, but I'm just in a constant state of trial and error and frustrated with my hair when I'm all natural. Plus I feel like I have more frizz, and I do not like the flat, stringy over conditioned look. But I did learn a lot from my trial and error practice.

I use shampoo. Daily unless I'm feeling overly dry. I alternate between a sulfate free, and a sulfate shampoo. I like L'Oreal Ever-whatever, and Clear scalp therapy shampoo. I don't condition daily. Maybe once a week. I deep treat with either a deep conditioner, or an oil treatment, about twice a month.

I don't use anything containing cyclomethicone, or cyclopentasiloxane. Ever. I'm strict about that. I usually don't use a product that has any silicone as the first ingredient, but I'm not so picky about the other cones BC I shampoo and they don't cause problems for me.

I don't overdue coconut oil (protein) and I don't use products with much protein in them. It makes my hair strawlike.

I don't like using product anymore BC I can't stand feeling it in my hair. I will use a mousse or a light hold gel, only on very wet hair. I used to love Curlkeeper, and I like straight aloe gel. Both work well as a sealer for me.

I like natural texture in hair. I do not consider overly producty/oily/manipulated hair to be in a natural state.

I color my hair often. Its in pretty good shape. Heat is what will destroy your hair. Not shampoo. Unfortunately my hair does look better when heat styled.

Take from that what you will!

@iroc I agree that it is all about trial n error as well as doing what suits the style you're going after.

I hate doing anything to my hair honestly so I will apply more product at times just so I can go days without doing anything.

It's all about the style you're currently into but keeping in mind the basics of good maintenance or cleansing and conditioning however often as needed.

HE range is my hg product. Cone free stuff makes my hair awesome too. And yes I still prefer sulfates but I make sure to dilute the shampoo in a mug of water and I use the soapy water. It's not drying and it cleans the hair and scalp pretty well

How often does everyone do protein conditioners or protein treatment?

I have not used protein anything in over 6 months. I'm thinking that's too long to go without.

It depends on your hair's porosity & individual strand density more than anything, methinks. I have average-low porosity hair, & most of my strands are very fine. I don't do protein treatments per se, but I use leave ins with proteins - coconut oil, hydrolised soy/wheat/keratin/collagen/silk protein, include coconut oil in my oil mix, & add both protein & moisture to my DCs. This has been a good approach for me; I'm able to keep my hair moisturised whilst also strengthening my fine strands.

My sister, however, has low porosity hair, & her strands are medium. She has to do many more moisture treatments; protein tends to make her hair feel like straw & get tangled.

ETA: We both DC weekly, from 2 hours to overnight most weeks.

SN: How does your hair feel? If it feels mushy & your curls/waves look a little limp, then it's probably time for a protein DT. Otherwise, you're okay. Although a little protein likely wouldn't hurt

I took my braids out yesterday. So that was 35 days with braids.

ATTACH]28486[/ATTACH]

Tonight I'm about to dye my hair and getting rebranded. I'm also thinking of quitting leave in conditioner and trying "Oil only" method. LOLx I want to go ALL natural in 2013. No chemicals AT ALL not even alcohols and the other stuff in conditioners and shampoo.

I tried going cone free too, but I had the same issue - not enough slip.

My hair loves and needs cones. It's fine, so tangles easily.

I cowash every day, and still don't need to shampoo often. My last shampoo was ages ago!

My current favourite conditioner is an AtOne one. It has CRAZY slip, like egg whites and mucus. I love it. Full of cones but *shrug* it makes my hair really soft.
