Curly haired daughter/Straight hair mom

Hi,
My 6 year old dd has wonderfully curly hair, I on the other hand have pin straight hair. I have never had her hair cut {don't really plan on it}. I don't do anything/use products in my hair as it is so straight and have no idea how to handle dd's hair.
She has shirley temple type curls but the top layer always seems to get frizzy. I know I should use some product - but what - and as she's only 6 I'm not looking for something expensive.
Could someone tell me what brushes/combs are best? Products? Any styling tips? How to prevent bedhead/hathead?
I appreciate any advice you could share with me.
Thanks!!

Hiya,

Arent you a great mum! My mum wasnt curly, and didnt have a clue about my hair, just tried to flatten it down by brushing it to death.

I have sons, who have quite straight hair, so I cant really say how to treat childrens hair, but there is a board here for parents of curlies, they will probably be better able to help you out.

Hope this helps

But then again, too few to mention...
Absolutely, check out the board just reccommended. And also, as a another curly w/ a straightie mom, just realize your daughter's hair is entirely different. The only time you'll want to use a comb or brush is when her hair is wet & loaded with conditioner. When it's dry -- never. Ever. Curly hair is fragile & will break. Plus you'll create massive frizz. At the very least she needs a leave-in condn'r, and probably a little lightweight gel. There are some great brands for curly kids, and Loreal makes a good drugstore one.

Whatever you do, ALWAYS use the soft cloth ponytail holders. The onles with metal connecters gets snarled in delicate curls like your daughters. Trust me, I went through a lot of tears when I was little. Good luck!

Currently: Trying to stop straightening so much. Using Elucence conditioner and whatever works for me.
hi there, my daughter had corkscrew curls from the age of 8months til about three years, and all i did was use a little shampoo, loads of conditioner, rinsed, patted it till it was about 3/4 dry then i put in detangling spray and used a wide toothed comb and then i left it to dry, i have some fantastic photos of her when she was growing up with the most amazing curls, unfortunatly my eldest daughter decided that she didnt like her sisters curls anymore and pretended she was a hairdresser and lopped the lot off!!!! when i saw her i cried like a stuck pig i can tell you!!! worse thing was, my husband didnt even noticed!!!!
