Help - this climate is so bad for my hair
I recently moved from Europe to south-Japan, and the climate is classified as tropical here. In Europe my hair is completely FINE but here it is one frizzy MESS. Anyone knows what ingredients I should or should not use in this extremely humid climate? I look like a birds nest!
Many thanks in advance..!
My guess is that if it's extremely humid there, the dew point is probably high. If that's the case, then you should avoid humectants (like glycerin, honey, etc.) in your LI or styling products - humectants are great in moderate dew points, but once the dew point gets over 60, humectants can pull too much moisture into your hair and cause it to swell and create frizz. Instead, look for anti-humectants (certain oils and butters - like coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, shea butter, etc.) that can help seal the hair. Silicones are synthetic anti-humectants, if you use these in your hair. If you're following the CG method, you can try using products with water-soluble cones (like demethicone copolyl, or PEG modified demethicone).
Definitely avoid humectant ingredients.Stay.Away.From.Glycerin. Also, many gels seem to contain it: Ecostyler, Fantasia, etc . Other humectants include honey, propyl glycol, and castor oil. Glycerin is the #1 worst though. Some solutions are sealing with butters, heavy oils, and serums after moisturizing your hair thoroughly
Living in the sub-tropics is one of the hardest places to live in if you are a curly..IMHO. I live in the southeast US, and it's very humid here all year around. Here we are in mid-November, and the humidity is still high.I've tried many oils and butters but they're not strong for the weather here. I now personally seal with petroleum/mineral oil based products, after moisturizing, since they stop the moisture of the humidity from sabotaging my hair. Works for me at least, regardless of how tabooed it is to use them..
