Hi fellow curlies,
I've been reading this site for a long time but this is my first post. I've been CG for about six months.

So I've found a way to make my 3B curls really defined and pretty (DevaCurl No Poo and One Condition, comb through Kinky Curly Knot Today, plop with a flour sack towel, plus it helps that winter is here and there's less humidity), but it turns out defined, frizz-free curls also means my hair is noticeably shorter. Probably not a surprise to the rest of you, but it was to me! I'm trying to grow my hair longer--right now it's below my shoulders when wet, above them when dry.

Anyway, I guess I have to figure out what's more important: perfect curls or length. I apologize if this topic has been discussed before, but I was just wondering if anyone here ever chooses frizzy, looser curls over perfect curls because you want your hair to look longer?
Maybe you can find a happy medium?

The longer I go without restyling my hair the bigger it gets - the curls get looser ( and some parts go straight) but sometimes I don't care and I do like the length. It just depends on my mood.

It also depends on my mood (and the weather, and products) when I'm styling - my hair can be anywhere between short ringlets and basically a puff ball.
Thanks for responding, SpiralSpunk!

Yes, I'm going to keep experimenting...darn, guess I'll have to buy more products.
Try being a 4a. There are those of us who kill, steal and trade our first born for that level of shrinkage. LOL!!

adthomas, thanks for giving me some perspective!
I'm the opposite - I would kill to have Adthomas's bouncy 4A curls

My hair is so long, towards my waist when wet and forced straight...but it shrinks up to above my bra when it dries. I don't mind at all I do not like it when it poofs though ;p or when some parts mysteriuosly go straight over night! I can never figure that out - and it looks ridiculous, one long straight piece with a ton of shorter curls. Like I got a perm and the stylist missed a clump ;p
Finer, mixed with coarser strands, low-porosity, wavy curly whirly hair...3A, 2C hair. Medium thickness, medium elasticity.
S-shaped hair with corkscrew ends. My hair is even more confused than me ;p
My hair officially hates protein Once a month is enough!
Currently a fan of TiGi products, (rock on, TiGi Curlesque styling creme!) but that will soon change - I am a self-avowed product junkie! Yay!
BIG fan of supersoaker method - thanks Rudeechick!
My hair is waist length when it is straight but I have very defined curls that shrink quite a bit when my hair dries. I do not like this, I would like my hair to be the length it really is because I have always had and prefer long hair on myself. My hair however does not get very frizzy, I don't actually need much product and even with no product at all my curls dry very defined and soft (like spirals) and since they are naturally defined they don't tend to frizz up.

Yeah, I tend to always want everyone else's hair! I just think longer hair looks better on me. Part of it is that my hair for some reason is always in this big triangular clump--whether the curls are defined or not--that is really obvious when it's above my shoulders, if that makes sense. I think if it were longer, past my shoulders, the shape of it all would look better.

Yes, KnottyMaddy,I think you're right. I'm going to my stylist on Saturday (she's Deva trained) and I'll ask her what she thinks. Thanks for your input!

too funny!! same thing happened to me!!I've been growing my hair out and but I was frustrated with my fine limp curls as I know I had more curl to give. When I started applying what I learned on this site, my hair shrunk 2 inches at least! I loved the curls but missed my length. 2nd day hair gives me a nice balance as my curls have loosened up and my hair is longer.

I've learned to just give in to my hair...it's taken me a long time to just accept the whims it has, and that it never looks the same two days in a row, lol!
