I hear you there. I haven't cut my hair in about a year, ever since I went to the salon for a "trim" that turned into hair slightly below my ears! Deep treatments might help bring the curl back at least a little, and maybe you can use products especially made for hair growth, like scalp stimulating elixirs.
I can tell you, though, that headbands saved my hair! Even with longer hair, I wear them every day. Without it, my hair looks flat and straighter. I recommend soft, flexible ones that aren't tight on your head or hair. Tight ones can lead to breakage and squeeze your head too much, but the right fit is great.
The good thing about a bad cut is it gives you an excuse to wear cute head bands of different colors, maybe some with bows, etc. Also, you can pin things up, too. Sometimes I use bobby pins, but other times I find clips with bows
