Mousse in the wintertime?
I'm getting really fed up with my winter hair, all flat and undefined. I'm wondering if my gel is making my hair go flat because it's a heavier product. Maybe a mousse will be better because it's lighter, therefore it won't weigh my hair or curls down?

I tend to use more creams or mousses in the winter time. In the summer, I usually need more hold, but in the winter I need something lighter and more moiturizing. I like Aussie mousse + Leave-in conditioner. I'm really wanting to go out and buy some Joiwhip, too. I've heard good things there. I also like the HE Totally Twisted mousse, though not everyone likes that one. I do scrunch in a bit of gel on top of the mousse for better hold. Usually the Suave Antifrizz or Tizz No Frizz.

Good luck.
I'm about to come to the conclusion that my winter time hair is just not going to be as curly as my summer hair no matter what I do. I've tried JoiWhip, Recoil, and Boots, all hoping that I would get better results than with a gel.
So far, I think I am getting a bit more volume with the JoiWhip and/or the Recoil, but I definitely am not getting the curl definition I would like. I haven't played enough with the Boots, yet, but from my initial experiments, I don't think it's going to be my winter hair savior.
If you are interested, you can check out my Fotki experiments diary.

I will check your page out
That's what I'm afraid of, buying a bottle of mousse only to have it fail. I like mousse though, I used to use it a lot but the brand I used had cones in it. I wanted to try the Joi Whip but I saw that other thread concerning the scent, and I am not interested in neither watermelon or citrus scents for my hair lol.
I'll run into CVS and see what they have there...
ETA: Brio, the Kiss My Face gel seems to be working great for your hair! What's your verdict on it?

I'm right there with you. Between the cold weather and the wind, I haven't had a good hair day in weeks.

As for the JoiWhip scent, it's very faint, so I don't think the smell would bother you.
IMO, the KMF gel is good. It worked wonders for me in October. It seems to be doing well for me in the winter, too. I think tomorrow I will use just the KMF alone, again, to see what happens. I've been so determined to get that darned recoil to work for me that I keep trying the recoil each day combo'd with other products!
The KMF gel is really different. The ingredients are not like any other gel I have seen. They all look to be of plant-based origin. It comes out and goes on sticky, sorta in a fresh aloe vera gel way. However, when I scrunch out the crunch, it leaves my hair very soft -- almost too soft for the winter months!
I think a few other folks tried this, but I'm not sure if anyone has stuck with it.

Yes it's this dry cold weather and brisk winds that keeps me from having my true hair! It's been rolled up the last two days
Does the JoiWhip scent fade away or linger? I'm so anal about the scents on my hair The KMF sounds good too since it's pretty much organic and natural.

I haven't found the joiwhip scent to last long at all on my hair so I really wouldn't worry too much about that. It's an awesome product!!

The JoiWhip scent does not linger at all on me. The scent is basically gone by the time I squish it in my hands and put it on myhair.
The KMF has a grapefruit scent. I think grapefruit may be used as a preservative. ?????? It doesn't linger, though.

KMF is nice, I still use it. I rotate it in with my suave smoothing antifrizz gel.
KMF gives me some clumping and curl enhancement when I use it with my regular conditioner and leave in.

I've had good luck with Re:coil and Joico Ice Whip (new old Joiwhip or is that the old new Joiwhip? ). I leave lots of leave-in (conditioner, actually) and have nice soft, shiny, clumpy curls.
I'm also having a great hair week with Graham Webb Making Waves. I was jumping for joy this weekend when I found a store that had marked them down to $3.99 a tube (big tube!) as they sell for $13.95 at Trade Secret. I grabbed up 3 tubes to add to the one I have now and might go back to get the other 3 they had left .
