Flat top

I've been getting some amazing curls recently but I've ended up putting it all up because the top is SO flat but obnoxiously frizzy. I normally have great volume so I really don't know what the problem is. I do everything upside down and the clips don't really work for me. Help!

have you tried plopping? it always helps my curls start at thr root. do you diffuse? you could do it upside down paying special attention to the roots, to give them some lift, I would also try maybe some volumizing mousse.
The only thing that works for me is some layering in the crown, but that, of course, cuts off some of the curl if you're a 3A. Maybe you could divide the top into two parts and cross one over the other and pin with bob pins or something.

Are you applying the clips correctly? If you have access to the Curly Girl book by Lorraine Massey it shows you how to properly place the clips at your crown for just the right amount of height. I use to have MAJOR flat top, and this totally helps!!
