My curls are gone - help!

Hello,

Last week, I visited a hair salon to have some hair extensions clipped in and have my hair styled for a special occasion (using a hair straightener). I normally don't use heat styling at all - I let my hair dry naturally and some serum through it to keep it from going frizzy. I get it heat styled maybe 1-2 times a year for special occasions.

Normally, when I have this done, I wash my hair the next day and it goes back to normal pretty much straight away.

This time it has not. I have washed my hair 7 times since having it done and it is still not back to it's curly self. It is now a weird combination of sort of straight with some kinks and curls at the ends.

This is really bothering me as my hair is thinning and the curls made it look like it had a lot more volume. Now my hair looks thinner and pretty limp (although it is softer/smoother which is weird). I think it may have been caused by the hairdresser pulling down on my hair harder than usual. I did tell her to do it softer, which she did, but she then went back to pulling down harder again.

I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions on products or techniques to try?

Thanks
It sounds like hair has been over-processed by the straightener. Basically, you now have a relaxer in your hair and either you can be patient, wait till it grows out a nice length and cut it or shave your head. That's the risk you run when you use chemicals even slightly (permanent color included). You risk permanently altering the texture of your hair. In this case, I'm hoping I'm wrong.
Sorry, I think I was unclear. I used a straightening iron, not a relaxer. Outside of styling products, I don't use dyes or chemicals on my hair
It sounds like the iron was too hot and your hair is now has heat damage. I suggest you try a PT and DT if you haven't already. Your hair might benefit from more protein now. That said, damage is permanent.

Oh ok. Heat damage is irreversible. Its basically melted hair that has wilted with no nutrients, like a wilted plant. What u can do is deep condition twice a week. Patiently let your hair grow and clip your ends until you have cut out the damage. Or you can cut off the damaged hair and start over.
This is the funniest thing ever. I was stressing out about this for the past 3 weeks. I got new shampoo, conditioner, protein treatment, leave in conditioner, styling products etc etc. Nothing was working. Then yesterday I watched the video on plopping and tried it out. My curls came back! They are a little bit looser than usual but I'm sure it can be fixed once I play around with the products and process a bit more. So relieved!

That's means you had heat trauma instead of heat damage. Good for you and lucky!!
