New to gel, can I use gels not specifically for curls?

So i've just decided to start using the gel, however in the uk, we have barely any decent priced, curl gel. Off the top of my head, I know 1. However, i recently bought a gel today- L'oreal Invisi Mineral Gel. All the ingredients are cg. However, does it matter if the gel isn't specifially for curly hair. In the uk the gel products in this country are generally aimed at at men for their hair... So yeah, please answer thanks!

Yeah you don't need to use products specifically for curly hair at all. Actually, I find that drugstore brands that have curly hair products never work for me. I always go for things marked "moisturizing" for conditioner or "hard hold" for gel

Many companies making products for curly hair have either not heard of CG, or haven't bought into it, so their ideas about what makes something appropriate for curly hair are often widely different. What really matters is the ingredients.

FWIW, when CG first came along, nobody was making products specifically to comply with Lorraine Massey's approach, including Lorraine Massey. The new (second) edition of Curly Girl: The Handbook mentions Deva products, but doesn't hype them, rather explaining what types of product formulations work with the method.

I used the gel today (which featured a little picture of a man styling his hair) and it gave me good results, better than with any other products! And I got 'clumps.' Think i'll be sticking to gel from now on!

My hair actually dislikes any gel that is made for curly hair, usually because it has glycerin high up on the ingredients list and my hair doesn't like too much glycerin.
LA Looks Sport Gel has been my favorite gel for many years.

I haven't used any of the gels marketed to us by companies, because they either contain short chain alcohols, non-water soluble silicones, parabens, too much fragrance (for my nose), or irritating dyes (violet & yellow).

I almost gave up looking for gels because I just couldn't find anything. But I was in the Dollar Tree near my house the other day, & I saw that they had a knock off of LA Looks gel on the shelf. Just for kicks, I checked out the ingredients, & it was free of glycerine, short chain alcohols, parabens, silicones, & irritating dyes. And the scent was light. So I bought it, used it as my styler for my WnG last weekend, & have never been happier. It's my HG, & probably the only one I'll ever use, so long as the ingredients stay the same :)
