I've been trying CG on and off for months now and it hasn't gotten better.

Let's see...
My hair is fine, and it used to be a lot thicker but has thinned some (bad haircut and just not taking care of myself)

Porosity is a huge mystery to me...it dries relatively fast without any product so I assume normal
To high. However, it is severely dried out and not healthy so I'm not sure.

I need a trim. BAD! It's 3a when it actually works. I'm in a low few climate right now and the cold and heating is killing it.

It likes wheat protein but I can't find a moisturizing product to counter with that won't leave me greasy and flattened down. Everything is either too heavy, too light, makes me break out... Ugh!

I've heard amazing things about CJ products.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Oh and the best results I've had was with aveda be curly style prep (lots of curls and volume!) but the frizz was too too much. I don't mind a "messier" look at all.

And gels are a no go. And aloe is horrid lol
First off, did you clarify before starting cg? And are you sure none of your products have non-soluble cones?

Next - get the trim. It will help you gauge the actual condition of you hair and be able to tell what it needs.

Sounds to me like you are porous. You likely need PT's and DT's, and sealing your hair with LI then oil.

You say gel is a no-go - what happens?

Are you full cg? Or mod?

Your hair sounds quite like mine apart from the protein-loving bit (mine should love protein but it doesn't). I use Tresemme naturals moisturising conditioner which is plenty of moisture for me without weighing me down. I then use CJ's Beauticurls leave in and CIAB to fight the frizz (no aloe, yay!). I use mousse as I can't use gel either, have been using Joiwhip for ages but I think my hair's over it and I've just returned to using Alfaparf which I haven't been able to find for ages.
HTH a bit.

My hair doesn't care for gel, either--it's the chemicals. I use, what I call, jelly products. The gelatinous consistency without the chemicals.

Haircut is a must. You need to have your hair shaped, freshen the ends and get the right layering to "lighten" things up and allow your curls to form.

I want to say I am mod-CG. I've tried co washing, even with clarifying conditioners like someone here suggested, but after a while I get greasy, flat, nearly straight hair. I uses to wash regularly and used a product with cones in it and I never had problems. It was a more humid climate but I can't figure out what to change.

I have tried KCCC and the effects are bad. Greasy Coated feeling along with diminished curl pattern and drying frayed ends.

Tresemme naturals moisturizing conditioner doesn't do anything for me. I have frizz and breakage. The ends of my curls like fly out. They don't stay in a curl anymore and there are multiple lengths of hair in a curl that stick out.

I am trying to grow out my hair. I had horrible layering done and one part of my head was about 5 inches at one point!

I like mousses and creamy products. And serum-like products. I need a low maintenance routine right now. I know it will be a process of trial and error but I dont have time or money right now.
Well, If you are using cones then co-washing really won't work for you. You could maybe alternate co-wash and poo every other day.

You can use a sulfate free poo and still remove cones, as long as it has cocobetaine in it.

You can take some of the stripping effects away from poo by adding oil to it.

It sounds like you need protein. My personal favorite is gelatin treatments - cheap and easy, and they work better for me than anything else I've ever tried! But there are certainly plenty of PT's out there.

You'd probably want to do a weekly PT followed by a DT and perhaps an ACV rinse 2-3 times a week. (I just mix some in with my RO.)

I would consider mixing some oil in with some LI, and then put your styler over that - be it gel, mousse, curl cream, etc.

Some people like to use a curl cream and then put a pea-size of hard hold gel over that just for control. Sometimes it can be the amount of product you are using that causes it to not work.
