Default Hmm, maybe I'll stop putting products in very wet hair...

See, I'm not a morning person. I can barely hold my coffee mug, let alone operate something complicated like the shower. This is why I usually wash my hair at night. But yesterday, I washed in the morning. And I wasn't awake enough yet, because when I emerged from the shower I kept thinking I'd forgotten something...Deodorant? Check. Face cream? Check. It wasn't until my hair had been up in the microfibre towel for 10 min, that I realized -- I had forgotten to put any gel in?!?!

That pretty much spells disaster for me. If I don't get products on while my hair is wet, & before my towel-- I usually do it right in the shower -- frizz begins almost instantly. I took off the towel & expected the worst. But nope, I had used my beloved GF Leave-in, & my hair actually looked more clumpy and no frizz yet. So I put on lots of B&A gel (which in the past, hasn't done much for me, certainly hasn't held up to humidity well) diffused 70% dry & ran out the door.

An hour later I went into the bathroom at work, &... wow! Very defined, frizz-free, much bigger chunkier curls than in the past. And 2nd day hair almost better than the first, just with my usual 2 quarter-sized dabs of GF Leave-in applied with wet hands.

It must be the GF, right? I'm wondering if it seals my hair enough to allow me to apply products to towel-dried hair, or if it's just that B&A works better this way than on very wet hair. Anyone have any similar experience?

Hm. Not yet, but sounds like something worth experimenting with. Think I'll try 'forgetting' to put my gel in this weekend before plopping.

I can actually use the GF leave-in all by itself with no other products and get very good results. Although I don't do this often often b/c it just doesn't seem right to not put gel in!

I've never been one to put my products in sopping wet hair.

I normally scrunch out water with my MF (that looks funny, doesn't it?) towel and then put in my gel.

Heehee, you sound like me. It's a small miracle I manage to get washed and dressed every morning.

I don't think frizz is possible with GF
I bet your hair was glad for less water weight when the gel was applied

quoting LavendarCurls - "sounds like an experiment waiting to happen for me"!

I think this shall be my month for trying non-standard approaches. So far it's been generating good results! Thanks for posting. I learn so much from the curlies on this board.

I tried to put styling in wet hair, but it didnt work for me.
Now, I scruch with a MF towel & wait until half dry-then I put in product.
I get away with using less styling too!!

... I use Saturdays for experiments. Although, working with only 3 men, I could probably get away with experimenting everyday since they rarely notice when/if I'm having a good hair day or not .

Oh, btw .. I started to try your leave-in after gel this morning, but my hair had gotten too dry by the time I remembered it. Maybe tomorrow ..

I usually put gel in soaking wet hair, so this sounds like another experiment to try.

Well I'm going to try this this morning. I've been straightening lately as I'm so frustrated with my hair - even my staples aren't working. Fingers crossed.

Side note to medusahair - unfortunately frizz is possible with GF!

I don't style soaking wet hair either. My products seem much less potent when I do it.

Man, you are like me. I start functioning properly in the afternoon usually. ;o)

Glad the "new routine" worked. I kinda do it that way too.

How long is your hair now? About the same?

Well, it actually worked quite well. Put in some GF leave in while still in the shower, blotted by wrapping my hair in an mf towel for about 15 mins (as I usually do) then raked thrugh some gel and left it to dry. Scrunched it completely dry with the diffuser (again, usual routine) and it actually looked ok, a bit stringy but I can cope with that. The best thing was I had much less frizz than usual - minor miracle - and it just kind of "sat" right. Even stood up to a pretty windy day. Think I need a stronger gel, but I'm sure I can force myself to go shopping again!
Now if only this horrid cut would grow itself out.

Yes, I am glad to know there are other curlies who cannot function in the morning It takes me 2 mugs of coffee before I can safely drive.

Krista, that's amazing that you can use nothing but GF Leave-in as a styler -- esp as you're a 3B. Do you live a really dry climate?

I started putting stylers into very wet hair -- after squeezing water out with my hands, but b4 the towel -- b'coz frizz starts so fast for me, & b'coz I was getting tired of how long it took my hair to dry. If I don't seal it down immed after rinsing my condnr, frizz literally starts right then. That's the theory behind CK, which didn't work for me. I'm pretty certain putting gel into towel-dried hair would still be disastrous without the amazing GF leave-in. I'm going to try it today & use a different gel to see how that goes.

I've never had an HG before, and now I find myself getting the urge to hoard (which is something I don't do bcz I'm PJ) and scanning other products to see which is closest to GF's ingred's, so I have a back-up in case it's D/C'd.

OK, I ruined my own experiment. I tried the same technique: GF leave-in, towel, then this time the Got2B gel. But I decided to put SIF in b4 the gel, b'coz...OK, for no reason. It was just there, &...well, it was looking at me, like: "Why don't you ever use me? Other curlies use their SIF." So I did. And remembered why I don't: it leaves a gummy producty residue, much like One C if I leave it in. So my hair dried, & curls were defined & looked good -- except the top, which was weirdly straight -- but it felt yucky. So now, I don't know if it's b'coz I used the gel on toweled hair, or the SIF -- which I don't remember being that bad before.

Why oh why can I not have the discipline of laurabeth, to test only one product at a time....She is my scientific method hero. I don't have the patience to control variables like that.

My experiment day is Sunday, because I work out on Saturdays and don't worry too much about styling my hair before I go. I'd love to hear how you do with the leave-in after gel experiment. I'll be sure to check back next Saturday for the results!

I tried putting my Making Waves gel in after just putting my leave-in in and wrapping my hair in a Turbie Twist for about 10 minutes. Worked pretty darn good! I need to try that with some other gels now. Haven't done the leave-in after gel experiment yet. When I do, I'll put in your thread that you had started .

curlyfran - GF has the Sleek and Shine leave-in and the Curl and Shine Leave-in. I think those are the only ones - they're the only ones I've tried anyway.

CelticCurls - I'm like KristaRose in that I've been able to just use GF condish with the matching leave-in as my only products. I'm also having alot of luck just using the conditioner as my leave-in.

I know of two - sleek 'n shine and curl 'n shine. I use and like the curl 'n shine. I've never used sleek 'n shine, but many here prefer it. I believe it's the more moisturizing of the two. I tend to overcondition, so it's probably best that I use the other one:-)
