What are you doing different to your hair, now that it is COLD outside?
I re-did my routine. For one, I quit mousse and have been using Curl Keeper and the CHS gel with pretty good results. I think there is something I need to change about my conditioner, but I dont know yet what that is. I need something not as "thin" as Shea Cashmere or Curl care, but not as conditioning as Giovanni's Smooth as Silk, which I love, but I cant use it daily. Suggestions appreciated, as well as comments about the question.

Only thing I'm doing differently is limiting glycerin, and adding as much moisture as I can. (which means having to up protein a little, too, to compensate.)
I've done a couple overnight DT's, even. I'm dying to try CHS stuff, especially CK. What do you find it does for you?? |
Oh - and as for condish, since I haven't yet tried the Giovanni I can't really compare. Have you tried Tresemme Naturals? GVPCB would probably be too much, I'd guess. (that's my fave condish, year round.)
What about Renpure Organics Argan Oil? I don't love the scent (too perfume-y), but some people love that condish. Performance-wise I found it decent, but not my favorite. It is thicker than the SC, but I don't think overly rich at all. |
Does it make me a terrible curly if I say nothing? I have dry skin and hair all year round...it's not like Winter can really make it any worse. I just continue on.

Jas, funny you should mention, but I am going to re-try Tressemme naturals this AM. I looked in my closet to see what I might try different today, and found TS. I have not used it since I started using the Shea Moisture line. I think the Coconut Hibiscus works a bit better for me in winter, but I dont know why; does anyone have a hypothesis about this? regarding CHS, I have Curl Keeper; the gel (I mix them together); and of course, the roller jaw clips, which are wonderful. You may recall that I am a mousse gal! or I was. But my hair was just not holding with mousse. I went on line and looked at the videos of Curl Keeper - and decided to re-order some. the gel does have some glycerin in it - I too am sensitive to that - but it is far down on the list and does not seem to be causing a problem. I notice that tons of conditioners also have glycerin.

My hair isn't really glycerin sensitive, it's just that I can use too much in the winter, if that makes sense.
I was under the impression that CK had a lot of glycerin, but then I could be completely wrong. I know Corinna uses it and loves it, and she and I have similar hair in many ways. I guess at some point I'll break down and try some. You'll have to let us know how the TN works for you! |
I have adjusted by using a small amount of leave in when I previously used none. I also limit glycerin and I have to use more gel to counteract the softness of the leave in. Curlkeeper has glycerin but I've been using it sparingly. The poly quats actually bother me more than the glycerin. And ive been diffusing instead of air drying. I just got one of these http://www.amazon.com/BaBylissPRO-Na...ef=pd_sim_bt_1 and wow does it make a difference. My hair dries so much faster and springier and the clumps stay clumped. I love it!

Yes, I see that CK does have some glycerin, far down on the list. I am doing GOOD with it, though. Corrina and I also have similar hair, Jas, so it might be worth a try. I used the TN today, and its GOOD!

YAY! Glad the TN worked well! So great to find something cheap and readily available that works well, yes??
I will try the curl keeper - hopefully soon. Unfortunately I have to wait and recover from the holidays first. :/ |
