Winter shedding is freaking me out!
I am experiencing excessive shedding this winter. I usually minimize the shedding using AVG but nothing seems to be working in this cold. Oiling the scalp helps a lot bcz my scalp is dry but who wants to sport oily hair during christmas right?
please let me know if you have any suggestions. Is this kind if shedding normal in winter or must I consult a doctor? any kind if advice would be great ladies, thanks.

Can you have someone wash your hair for you in the sink? You can apply oil to your scalp and then wash out the oil just from the body of your hair if you tilt your head back in the sink.

I always experience increased shedding, gradually beginning in December and continuing through April and into May. In January, it's in full effect--I feel as though I'm going to go bald. And I ask the same question every year and freak out all over again every year, as if it's never happened before!
There's nothing you can do if the shedding is coming from the scalp, which if it's true "shedding," then it is. If it's due to breakage or increased tangling, then you'd need to find a product with better "slip" to facilitate detangling. I'm not a true product junkie, so I don't have any suggestions for a good detangler. I just wanted to commiserate with you and share my own yearly shedding experience.

Jessie- that sounds like a good idea. But won't the roots be greasy.. I guess I'll have try this to find out.
Honeycurls- it's both. But it's mostly from the scalp. Usually I shed around fifty strands a day , using AVG brings it down to 10-20. I know shedding is absolutely normal but I feel very depressed whenever I see the amount of hair on the floor when I detangle.

Winter Shedding
I don't shed any more than the norm in the winter months and it gets cold and dry here. I use a mouthwash paper cup size and put enough castor oil in it to oil my scalp, then I heat it in the microwave for a second or two, oil my scalp, massage it and seal my ends right after the massage, put my hair up in pineapple style, put in twist, place night cap on and go to bed.
You might want to wet your hair early in the eve so you won't go to bed with a wet head. If your hair is wet when you do this, it shouldn't be greasy when it dries although you should have a healthy shine after you take the twist down and style.

That might help. I use castor oil anyway, just not regularly.
