I've watched some youtube videos about curly hair and they talk about serum. I haven't been able to identify what brand is being talked about. Do you use a "serum"? At what point in your technique do you use it? What kind and for what reason?
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Experimenting with cones & sulfates while the dews are high.
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.

To my knowledge the word serum is like the word milk, it refers more to consistency. Serums are light and most of what they do is cosmetic, like gel, and don't moisturize or otherwise contribute to bettering your hair. Most mainstream serums are -cone based, but there other serums made up of different ingredients, usually light oils.
Many serums are cone based. I use Curls Gel-les'c in the high dewpoints and Curl Junkie's Curls In A Bottle (CIAB) as a serum.

After applying a curl enhanced (jelly or cream) and scrunching in gel for hold, I use a Curlease towel to plop. After I remove the towel I tip my head over and scrunch in one of those two products before I diffuse. Both are HG for me. It had allowed me to use almost any of my products all year. I no longer have to switch them up with the change of seasons.

It provides that extra coating in my hair to protect against any frizz. But...it doesn't build up like cones do for me.

Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
I did not know any of this.

Good question, cp.

FrizzB, good to hear from you.

These two products are the only products I can get away with using daily. I rotate everything else. Another option for a serum is the Styling Spritz from Kinky Curly. I do think the Curls and CJ is better though.

Happy New Year all

I just used a serum by ElastaQP and it made my hair a bit limp and lifeless so I didn't care for it. It did contain a lot of oils so maybe that was why.
EricaC, thanks for chiming in. My hair hates oils so I appreciate your input. I'll be careful to avoid oils in any serum that I buy (down PJ!).
