argan v. grapeseed oil
if argan oil were as inexpensive as grapeseed, which one would you prefer and why?
if you've used both, can you tell me the pros and cons of each?
thanks!

Still Argan.
I've used grapeseed in the past. It doesn't absorb well either when applied to my hair OR my skin. It sort of sits on top. Argan on the other hand absorbs pretty much right away and does wonders for my hair and skin. I'll stick with my argan.

thanks, rymorg!
i actually bought some a little while ago after i read your post. found it at the vitamin shoppe where it turns out they have all those oils and other hair brands, for a couple of dollars less than i've paid locally.
my hair was still damp and i had only used leave in. so i damped my hands and add some argan oil and put it through my hair. WOW! my hair looks great and it's not even on totally wet hair as i intend to use it going forward.
thanks!

so funny about the vitamin shoppe -- it's really close to my house, not more than 2 miles, it's just in a direction i rarely go in so i think this is maybe the 3rd time i've been there.
while i was there one of the oils i saw was jojoba. i only bought the argan.
where does jojoba oil fit in this compared to other oils?

I used to think my hair was ambivalent to argan, but I'm starting to realize it actually builds up on my hair like cones and prevents my hair from being moisturized. It feels sort of nice the first couple times I use it, cause it coats my hair, but then my hair gets progressively oily yet dry...if that makes sense.

Honesty, i find this is true of just about any oil after a while. My hair loves oil, though, and seeing how I'm mod cg, it never ends up being a problem for me.
As for Jojoba - I use it and love it. It makes a good sealer, and is supposed to be the closest thing to Jair's natural sebum.
It does not go rancid like many other oils do (especially cooking oils), and is great mixed with any essential oil.
Just don't use it on your skin.
I can't compare it to argan, in that I've never tried pure argan oil (tho I want to!), but I can say its fairly light, but not as light as say Grapeseed oil.

i'm sure whatever is used as a sealant eventually builds up if you don't low poo enough. i've stepped up my low pooing to twice a week for the winter, and i do skip a day here or there on sealing when i feel i have some buildup and/or the dew points are up a bit. was using jane carter nourish & shine which is good, now i will see how the argan oil does for a bit.

Argan is a nut oil, so I steer clear as all nut oils aggravate my skin...grapeseed is a safe alternative (as are olive and castor, with GSO being the lightest by far)...

Jojoba is actually excellent for your skin. I prefer rosehip seed oil though for my face.
My hair doesn't mind pumpkin seed oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil and a few other oils in conditioners. Argan is a build up culprit, like in a single use, and the problem is is that doesn't moisturize well and then my hair gets even dryer from clarifying it out. I don't really use any oil by itself though.

none of the oils moisturize, they lock in moisture that is already there.

Yeah I don't especially seal my hair. I just use a leave-in conditioner. I have such dry hair that if I skip waxes and heavy oils, my hair can stay build up free. I have a bigger issue with rugby and actual dirt in my hair.
I keep my routine super super simple. I don't like a lot products in my hair.

I will take grapeseed. Argon gives me buildup quickly.

I think you know what I'm trying to say, but if you don't that's fine. Argan doesn't work for me.

i used the argan the past two days. it did not sit on my hair, and my hair definitely looked healthier, shinier. however, as the day went on my curls loosened up, almost as tho i had blow dried my hair. so i am thinking that as the dew points were quite low the argan did not act like a sealant, altho my hair was not dry as it is without one.
today i did not use the argan, i sealed with jane carter nourish & shine. i have not low poo'd since i started with the argan, just cowash, so i assume some the argan is still in my hair? anyway, today my hair is really good, very curly and shiny. curls did not loosen up in spite of the very low dew points.
my question is, what if i used a little of the argan with my leave in, then some jane carter n&s after my styler?

My answer: if it works, do it!
I mix oil with my LI - it's easier to distribute, and removes a step. Then your additional products I would think are fine. If you hair responds well to it, then it's a good thing! If it continues to do so - you've found an HG!

i put my leave in in the shower while my hair is dripping wet. i don't want to take a glass bottle (argan oil) into shower so i add the oil when i am out of the shower, before i blot my hair (at this point tho it is not dripping as the leave in has soaked up some of the water). so, do you mix it before you get in shower in some type of container?

I do LI in the shower, too, but then after I get out I just put a dab more of it in my palm, mix the oil in, and apply.

I bought 4oz argan oil for 20$ at vitacost.
Grapeseed isn't as moisturizing.

i use both. ive just started using grapeseed oil and do really like it as well. but it seems to make my hair a LITTLE fizzier, argan oil helps more with my fizz, though GSO is better for defintion. they both make my hair really shinny and strong and help with growth i use both for my ends, to refresh and to help with "winter hair"
