SM curling soufflé!

Like Tree17Likes

I tried the SM Souffle today, and I'm having pretty good results with it. After cleansing and then conditioning with KCKT (and rinsing some of it out), I added the Souffle to my soaking wet hair. (Actually the shower was still running as I applied it.) I was worried about using too much, so I used a lighter hand than I usually do, maybe using a total of two nickel-sized blobs rubbed between my hands and distributed to every section of my hair. (My hair is almost BSL when wet and not quite shoulder-length when dry. Very thick.) Then I combed it through to ensure even distribution. Plopped for about 10 minutes, then let it air-dry while I ran some errands. No gel, no other products.

I was worried it wasn't doing anything since I'm used to having my hair coated in much more stuff. But when I next looked in a mirror, my curls looked shiny and well-defined! I was actually surprised. I may have now messed things up because I have KCCC addiction and I just scrunched some of this into my nearly-dry hair (I do this all the time and usually love it. My hair still looks good right now, but my hands got super sticky while scrunching and I'm concerned that it may not be mixing well with the Souffle. We shall see.).

Anyway, for those who are on the fence about this, I'd recommend giving it a shot. The key to my application, I believe, was using it in SOAKING WET hair. I can see how it could be sticky and unpleasant if the hair were at all dry. And be smarter than I am and set the KCCC down.
I've had mixed results with both this souffle and KCCC. I've had good days with nice curls but I think more often than not, I just end up with dry, sticky curls that feel producty. Like everything else about my hair, I can't figure out why it does what it does. But I have the soufflé in my arsenal, liked it enough that I didn't toss it. Might have to give it a shot again.
fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

Co-wash: VO5 Volumizing
Poo: Giovanni 50:50
RO:TN, Nexxus Youth Renewal, Alba Coconut
LI: KCKT
PT: gelatin PT, ION EC
Stylers: Giovanni mousse, TIGI Curls Rock amplifier (a-cone), Curls Rock Strong Hold Mousse
Gels: SCC spray gel

Umm... It's hard to say. I just scoop some out with my finger tips, once or twice, depending on how well distributed it was.

Maybe... The size of a walnut (in the shell)?? Idk! Hard to measure that, I guess! No more than that much, I'd say. And my hair is pretty thick and long.

I do use it over LI and sealer, and then put some gel over that.

I'm REALLY wanting to try it WITH the smoothie! Hopefully I can get out to pick some up soon!

Eta: my hair is pretty long - almost elbow length, is layered, and pretty dense (even though fine in texture.)

Update on SM Souffle and KCCC mixing: it all worked out in the end. Apparently the two didn't hate eachother! This is good news for me because I'll never give up my beloved KCCC!
I'm actually very surprised that they both worked out together in my hair because, as I said in my previous post, when I scrunched in the KCCC on top of the SM souffle, my hands felt horrible: coated and sticky. But my hair felt fine, and now that everything is completely dry, it looks and feels awesome. Great frizz control and probably the best definition I have had up to this point (although I've only been CG for about a month and a half, so that might not be saying much yet).

I am very surprised and I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know most folks have had mediocre results with this (at best), so I can't believe it's working well for me. [Need a suspicious-looking-icon here. Maybe this? lol]

Anyway I'm gonna give it another shot in a day or two and I will update!

Trying out steaming!
Is KCCC more like the soufflé than the smoothie? I've never used it, but I always thought that was the case.

Anyone use the soufflé and the smoothie together??

I'm still loving the soufflé! Today I was a little flyaway - just a little. But that may be bc I co-wash instead of low-pooed. In fact that's likely what the issue was. I should have upped the protein amounts!

Lo-poo - Renpure Keratin, SMR, Giovanni SaS
clarifying - mix Johnson's H2T with low poo
Co-wash - Suave Nats. clar. or coco.

LI - SMR, Cure Care, or RO
Seal - MO or Jojoba
DT - + honey, ACV, & EVOO to SM masque & GVPCB

Jas I can't believe you've never used KCCC. I bet you'd like it! I find it to be very similar, only without the agave & aloe in the soufflé. I think the smoothie is more of a moisturizer, or curl cream.

And hair twin - low-poo is using a non-sulfate shampoo, where co-washing is using a conditioner as your cleanser.

I alternate. I low-poo if I'm on 3rd day hair, or if I just feel oily scalped (from a workout, etc).

If my scalp feels fine or my hair doesn't feel too funky with product, or if it feels a bit dry, I'll co-wash. Plus if I just pooed it the day before, I usually go with a co-wash.

A lot of the time I co-wash I find I need some extra protein.

I do it even more often in these winter months!

Alright, ok, phew! That's what I've been doing. I lo-poo once a week sometimes more, and d BS/ACV once a month. I was to try the deva curl no-poo thgh. I've been using all the same stuff since I started but I need to try new things.
I made FsG, my hair likes it but I'm not sure how to use it. How do you use it? Do you out it before or after other products?

I started doing BS/ACV washes in the beginning, but it didn't really work for me. I still do the ACV rinses by adding it to my RO.

I tried the deva NP and OC, and did not like them. Granted it was at my actual devacut, so it was only that one time. And I think it was more the OC than the NP. It just left my hair feeling coated and really gunky. I couldn't wait to wash it.

I use FSG after LI/oil, and before gel. But I have to say, I'm almost liking the SM soufflé more right now. It has flax in it, but it just seems to be working better for me lately. Maybe it's the winter weather, idk. I just don't seem to get as much much hold with the FSG, or at least not as long lasting hold. I had a lot more frizz by the end of the day. But to be fair I haven't done enough comparing to make a real judgement. I'll have to experiment more. It could have been that I didn't use enough gel, or used too much condish, or some other factor.

But I do love my FSG! I use it almost like a curl enhancer/clumping product.

I've been reading this thread for a while and I already like a Shea Moisture low poo that I use. I want to maybe stock up on stuff from them. So I just caved and got the soufflé. I'll use it tomorrow. Maybe next I'll try one of the heavy duty deep conditioners.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.
LOL! Well, let us know what you think!!

I LOVE their low poo. (The yellow label). I use the condish as a LI. The masque is good, but I mix it with other stuff.

Love the elixir, and what to try the smoothie soon!

So far I love it...and I have to use so little. This tub is gonna last me forever. I may pick up some kind of deep conditioning mask or leave in conditioner or maybe the smoothie...since it's all so moisturizing. It's still a bit damp and I haven't had to go about my day yet so we'll see. But I will definitely be buying more of this line!

It's not real crunchy if u put it on soaking wet hair which is what I did. And I haven't put anything else in. I've heard mixed results on the smoothie...but I guess there were mixed results on the soufflé...and so far that works.

I saw a Youtube video from a lady who mixed the SM curling souffle and curl enhancing smoothie. Her WNG lasted 11 days!

So, despite the bad reviews of the souffle, I broke down and bought them. I just did my usual braid out. While I was applying the products, my hair didn't look that good. It was a bit frizzy and dull looking. Once it was dry, it looked really great. My hair was soft, moisturized, and shiny all week long. I didn't even have to do touch ups.

While I was applying the products, I noticed that I had a some itchy bumps at my hairline and a red blotch on my arm. My eyes were burning, but I just assumed product was running in my eyes.

The second time I used the smoothie and souffle combo, it was a complete disaster. My hands and eyes were itching and burning. The inside of my nose was burning, and my throat started closing up. I have never had such a severe reaction to anything.

That's just the way it goes for me. Whenever I find a product that works on my hair, I end up being allergic to it. I hate my skin. I'm always turning red or breaking out in hives.

I'm still trying to figure out which ingredient is the culprit. I first eliminated the smoothie, and used the souffle with a different leave-in. I, once again, had that severe reaction. As soon as the product touched my hand, my skin started itching. The next time I did my hair, I used only the smoothie. I think my hands itched a little, but the reaction was nowhere near as severe as with the souffle. I use the SM Curl & Shine shampoo and the Curl & Style Milk with no problems.

I've never read about anyone else having an allergic reaction like I did. So, for anyone who has normal skin, I highly recommend the SM curl enhancing smoothie and curling souffle. If my allergic reaction had been milder, I really would still be using it.

Let's see... I usually use Organix Shea, tbh. The Renpure Organics (Argan or Keratin) I actually ordered through drugstore.com. They didn't impress me much. I'm still using them up, and they work ok. But I like the Organix Shea just as well if not better, so I'll stick to it.

I hear really good things about the Renpure that comes in the red bottle, and it's pretty easy to find. It's next in my cocobetaine-having poo list to try.

I'm sorry you are so frustrated. I've been there, believe me. I'm sure I'll be there again at some point! But I tell you, what made the biggest difference for me was sealing. And once I tried mineral oil, I never looked back! HG for my porous hair! I'm even starting to get something that passes for more even curls. They are still a little looser in front, but they are to the point they blend and are tighter than they were before.

well, maybe I need to get some mineral oil. If it works for you, it should work for me, right? lol!

I wish I could get clumps, too. It just wont happen. You should post a hair pic, so I can see if our curls are actually similar or if it's just our properties. They sound SO similar!
